This permanent, full-time position is based in Ottawa, ON with some flexibility for hybrid work arrangements.



Position Summary:



The Project Planner will play a central role in driving schedule integrity, standardization, and portfolio-level visibility across all programs at Leonardo Canada - Electronics. Reporting to the Head of Programmes, the Project Planner will partner with Technical Project Managers (TPMs) to create and maintain accurate, integrated schedules aligned with organizational goals, financial baselines, and customer deliverables.

This role requires deep expertise in scheduling methodologies and advanced tools (with preference for JIRA and MS Project), as well as the ability to act as a scheduling authority within the PMO. The successful candidate will establish governance, mentor project teams, and provide clear insights to enable informed decision-making at all levels of the organization.



Key Responsibilities:



Develop, maintain, and standardize project schedules across multiple programs in collaboration with TPMs. Ensure compliance with organizational scheduling standards, templates, and best practices (dependencies, critical path, duration thresholds). Control, document, and communicate schedule changes consistently and transparently. Perform schedule risk analysis, highlighting potential slippages, conflicts, or resource constraints. Integrate individual schedules into program- and portfolio-level views for senior leadership. Provide consolidated schedule data for reporting to management, PMO, and customers. Collaborate with Finance to align schedules with cost baselines and Earned Value reporting. Act as a subject matter expert in scheduling tools (JIRA, MS Project, or equivalent), offering training and support to project teams. Partner with TPMs, project managers, and department leads to capture requirements, define milestones, and maintain consistency.

Essential Skills:



5+ years of experience in project scheduling, program planning, or project controls. Proven ability to develop and maintain Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) across complex, multi-project environments. Strong understanding of project management principles (scope, schedule, cost, risk). Analytical mindset with the ability to identify schedule risks and recommend corrective actions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration with TPMs, finance, stakeholders, and senior leadership. Skilled in balancing enforcement of consistency with flexibility for project-specific needs. Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) and ability to integrate cost and schedule data. Ability to train, mentor, and influence teams to adopt best scheduling practices.

Desirable Skills/Experience:



Experience in the defence industry. Project Management Professional (PMP), PMI-SP (Scheduling Professional), or equivalent certification. Experience working in Agile or hybrid project management environments.

Security Clearance:



Given the nature of our software development work, it is a condition of employment that the successful candidate receive the required security clearances. Successful candidates must be eligible for Controlled Goods Regulations Program (CGRP) government clearances and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). In addition, candidates must be able to obtain a Canadian Industrial Security Clearance to NATO SECRET level.

Must be either a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada. Must have lived in Canada continuously for the past 10 years. Must not have a criminal record.
