Job Summary
The person in this role will be responsible for the planning and launch of at least two micro-certificates, (OH&S and Infection Prevention and Control, and Data Analysis using R) as well as coordinating all aspects of defining the curriculum, educational goals, environmental assessment and creation of the program budget (revenue and costs) for a graduate level Pathology Assistant Program and a Fellowship for Clinical PhDs. The individual will also be responsible for creating a marketing plan for each of these programs and will be responsible for student admissions,, working with UBC to resolve issues that may arise with the educational platforms used by these certificates as well as with the existing Infection and Prevention and Control certificate. The individual is also responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations and budget management of the Infection Prevention and Control certificate as well as approved new micro-certificates and graduate programs. This role plays a crucial part in project coordination of all aspects of the development and UBC and government approval of these courses/programs that are needed by the BC health authorities. These educational programs have been identified by either the Ministry of Health or the BC health authorities as priority areas for the province's health human resource needs.
Organizational Status
The Project Manager reports to the Director of Administration in the UBC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and will work closely with at least four faculty leads regarding the project status, student enrolment and feedback, marketing and budget.
Work Performed
Identifies all stakeholders for the micro-certificates and graduate programs, develops and implements a stakeholder engagement plan.
Creates, and updates a project plan identifying what needs to be considered and completed for the creation and launch of each educational program.
Conducts preliminary analyses of the market to identify opportunities for alliance and competitors and manage all joint collaborations.
Researches and identifies potential partners, and works with identified partners in industry, government agencies and institutions (locally, nationally, and internationally) to assist in content development of the micro-certificate.
Researches and identifies potential learners, including developing a learner recruitment plan using UBC sources.
Develops a plan to ensure the sustainability of the micro-certificates, and graduate and post graduate program (including marketing activities, administrative tasks, financial projections, human and resources, IT resources content upgrades, industry partner and learner recruitment plan, records management and archiving, etc.)
Ensures project schedules for each new educational initiative is on schedule and where there is a deviation from schedule, develops mitigation strategies
Ensures each educational program is compliant with its accrediting body
Where required by the Faculty of Medicine, UBC, and or government, writes the business case outlining the needs for the program, the costs, revenue and projected student volumes
Based on feedback from the relevant clinical faculty writes the curriculum proposals.
Works with the clinical faculty and FoM accountants to determine the budget for the Pathology Assistant
Program and the Fellowship for clinical PhDs and the micro-certificates. Is responsible for identifying all costs and revenue items. Looks for opportunities to accept international students.
Based on potential student demographics and interests, develops a marketing program for each educational initiative and then develops, updates and manages the marketing plan.
Along with faculty leads presents the budgets and proposals to Department curriculum committee, FoM and UBC committees and all other relevant groups.
Develops stakeholder communication plans for each of the four educational programs.
Identifies risks and works with Steering Committees to develop risk response strategies for the micro-certificates, graduate program and Fellowship for clinical PhDs.
Leads all stakeholders through the project planning and updates.
Works with faculty to develop feedback and evaluation loops for initial launch and ongoing micro-certificate offerings.
Develops and implements the communication/marketing plans for the launch of the micro-certificates, the Masters and the Fellowship for clinical PhDs.
Works with department and UBC HR to create all consultant contracts and faculty appointments.
Confirms the student registration system for each educational program.
Leads and facilitates meetings amongst the planning committees' members, creates and distributes agendas.
