Project Manager

As a leader in our industry, we now have over 15 GW of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects in development, and 32 projects in operation or construction across North America.
We are seeking a Toronto, ON based Project Manager who will report to our Senior Director of Engineering & Technology.
Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and organize project documentation, such as project plans, schedules, and progress reports.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, and create contingency plans as required.
  • Address any unforeseen project-related issues and minimize scope creep.
  • Keep the project team informed on progress and major milestones achieved.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to project team members, and mentor and develop staff as necessary.
  • Continuously monitor project progress and adjust as needed to ensure successful completion.
  • Collaborate with sales and business development teams to identify and pursue new BESS project opportunities.
  • Represent the company in meetings with customers and industry partners.
  • Work with engineering team to ensure complete submission of interconnection applications.
  • Familiarize with EPC and O&M agreements with EPC contractors to understand milestones and responsibilities of the EPC.
  • Manage the EPC contractor following financial close to create and manage project execution plans ensuring that all milestone targets are being met.
  • Work closely with the EPC contractor and the customer during the design and construction phase to manage site visits, organize site mobilization and access, plan power shutdowns, and ensure alignment of project expectations throughout the project.
  • Provide recommendations and participate in continuous improvement efforts, including guidance development, process refinement, and lessons-learned activities.
  • Lead the development, design, and implementation of large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful completion within established guidelines.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including project team members, customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Proactively develop and maintain strong collaborative professional relationships with vendors, customers, key stakeholders, and utility partners across various operating jurisdictions.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Uphold Aypa values regarding safety leadership, integrity, and performance excellence.

Key Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) and Project Management Professional (PMP) designations are considered an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in renewable energy or electrical project management related roles
  • Requires knowledge of project management, economics, and business principles relating to engineering projects in the energy sector.
  • Experience in leading or overseeing projects and teams for projects with a total value of up to $25M.
  • Experience working within a team environment both collaboratively, and as an individual contributor.
  • Knowledge, or experience with, construction codes, standards, and methods, including but not limited to safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Demonstrably strong organizational skills and experience using project and task tracking software and tools.
  • A consultative approach to client and vendor requirements, with an ability to manage dynamic prioritization.
  • High initiative and desire to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment with executive mentorship but limited task-level direction and supervision.
  • Proven ability to simultaneously plan, manage, and execute multiple projects, handle high-pressure situations, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation and Location:
  • Salary: A base salary commensurate with experience.
  • Bonus: An annual bonus will be awarded based on both individual performance as well as the overall success of the business.

  • Location: This position is based out of our Toronto Ontario office in a hybrid office model. Willingness and ability to travel 5-10% of the time (as required). On-site client meetings, visits to project and vendor sites are required. Periodic international travel to the US may also be required.
