Job Description


Reporting to the Manager, Research Facility Planning and Operations, the PM, Research Facilities & Operations supports scientific endeavors across the Research portfolio including oversight and coordination of space planning and research operations. The PM is responsible for managing and supervising all Research Facilities projects to ensure seamless execution, facilitation and successful completion of all project management phases. A key project this role will focus on will be the new Research Building which will involve construction design review, equipment planning, user group meetings and other components within operational readiness.Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and manage the development of research project plans, and ensure cost effective and timely execution of multiple, simultaneous small and large scale renovation projects within all Research departments at CAMH
  • Working with the new Research Building project team for construction design review, equipment planning, user group meetings and other components within operational readiness
  • Support corporate facilities in validating space requirements, assessing options for space accommodation, estimating project costs, leading or participating in procurement processes, and coordinating with on-site contractors and consultants as needed
  • Perform regular space audits, analyze and present results as needed, and document changes/issues related to space
  • Validate space requirements, provide options for space accommodation, lead the associated design development, provide project cost estimates, support procurement, contract administration and project close-out phases
  • Oversee the Environmental Monitoring System (EMS), which supports all Research departments and monitors laboratory equipment and critical research spaces
  • Proactively identifying and resolving issues, providing user programming and training, supporting the annual requalification of the EMS, and responding to alarms for centralized assets 24/7
  • Executing project work streams independently and be accountable for tracking all relevant project document
  • Manage team members including Research user groups, consultants, contractors, suppliers, vendors and internal partners, and facilitate all aspects of project team meetings including scheduling, agendas, leading meetings, recording meeting minutes, and ensuring follow-up of action items identified
  • Manage design teams, on-site contractors and other consultants, monitoring progress and quality of work, and proactively managing issues that arise to reduce/ eliminate project risks
  • Work with Research Finance to keep track of Research facility project budgets as well as supervise co-op students and assist with space planning initiatives on various projects.
  • Work with various research groups to develop user requirements and translate them into actionable project plans
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders related to all research facilities matters.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations through effective communication and issues resolution
Liaise with the Redevelopment Office to address and co-ordinate the resolution of issues and tasks related to facility projects working within and upholding all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements for facilities.
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field of science, architecture or engineering in addition to five (5) years of experience in research and operations playing a key role in space planning, renovation and infrastructure initiatives in a hospital setting, with demonstrated knowledge of Research Wet Lab, Preclinical, Imaging and Clinical Research spaces.
  • Working knowledge of design development/ contract documents, project cost estimation, project schedules, contract structure and other matters pertaining to project planning and implementation is required.
  • Experience with new construction projects and major relocations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of AODA; IPAC; Asbestos Safety & Awareness and Occupational Health & Safety specific for construction
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project
  • AutoCAD is required. Proficiency in other drafting software including Bluebeam Revu, CorelDraw, etc. is an asset.
  • Excellent time management, prioritization and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem recognition and resolution skills
  • Five (5) years of experience in research and operations playing a key role in space planning, renovation and infrastructure initiatives in a hospital setting, with demonstrated knowledge of Research Wet Lab, Preclinical, Imaging and Clinical Research spaces
  • Previous experience in contract administration/construction management. Working knowledge of reading and interpreting construction documents including drawings, specifications and shop drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to administer CCDC and OAA contracts and supplementary contract documents
  • PMP designation required
