Position Summary

An exciting opportunity exists in our Information Technology Department in Fort Saskatchewan for Project Manager.

Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Services, the purpose of this position is to work with all departments across the organization to ensure IT projects meet objectives on time and on budget by increasing employee adoption and usage.

This role will focus on the changes to business processes, systems and technology aligned to the IT strategic objectives. The primary responsibility will be creating, implementing, and managing project management and change management strategies that maximize the employee adoption and usage and minimize resistance.

The position is accountable for managing projects from initiation through completion aligned to the IT Project Management Office best practices. Additionally, this position is accountable to ensure the changes are adopted and sustained by all affected stakeholders. Internal communications development is also part of the accountabilities.

For both project management and change management functions this role will support the definition of key performance metrics to develop and sustain the project management office effectiveness and operational efficiency.

Accountabilities

  • In support of strategic objectives, lead the planning, organizing, and managing of resources to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, including the monitoring and tracking of all project costs.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure that project requirements are developed and aligned to meet the stakeholder needs, including the definition of in scope and out of scope items for the project.
  • Complete project management documentation based on Project Management Institute and Sherritt IT Project Management Office standards for project.
  • Ensure all approvals relevant to Sherritt standards are obtained prior to project initiation, including but not limited to any project costs that may need to be adjusted during the project lifecycle.
  • Build a project team aligning with project requirements for successful completion in alignment with the project owner for all affected areas.
  • Manage the project governance through project stages using operating committees, steering committees, and overall stakeholder meetings.
  • Maintain an accurate forward schedule of change that is kept visible to the organization.
  • Provide input and recommendations to maintain the IT governance across the Global IT organization to support the delivery of a Project Management framework to support the IT Project Management Office, including definition and management of key performance metrics.
  • Oversee contract resources including activities such as onboard, offboard, accounts, contracts, and daily management.
  • Develop and sustain effective relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers of goods & services.
  • Ensure transition to support for all project activities are defined with the Business Owner and are built into the project sustainment activities.
  • Provide recommendations to mature and modernize the IT PMO function.
  • Develop the Change Management program and project change strategy by applying subject matter expertise in change management processes and tools to support adoption of the changes required by a project or initiative that aligns with the overall IT strategy.
  • Create actionable deliverables based off change management assessments for IT projects for the five change management levers: communications plan, sponsor roadmap, coaching plan, training plan, resistance management plan, integrating the change management activities into project plans.
  • Provide input, document requirements, and support the design and delivery of training programs.
  • Develop a communications framework to share the customer experience related to IT projects and strategic objectives.
  • Identify key stakeholders to conduct impact analyses and assess change readiness to manage anticipated resistance.
  • Define and measure success metrics and monitor change progress to ensure initiatives business value is delivered at project completion and can be demonstrated quantitatively and qualitatively to the organization.
  • Develop, deploy, and continuously improve all change management activities including change management processes and tools.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Information Technology diploma or degree
  • Project Management & ITIL certification
  • Experience and knowledge of Organizational Change Management principles (PROSCI training considered an asset)
  • Strong experience as a project manager on various IT specific projects
  • 10 + years of technical experience in the IT field
  • Experience and knowledge of Continuous Improvement principles, methodologies, and tools or equivalent (Green Belt Training considered an asset)
