PROJECT MANAGER



Responsible for on-budget, on-spec, and on-time management/coordination of all projects for a small, niche application supply/installation construction company.

The Project Manager reports directly to the President of a 18-person company and works cooperatively with the other members of the Management Team, consisting of the President, Estimator/Salesman, the Construction Superintendent, and the Administration/Accounting Manager. The management team will have access to a project coordinator / assistant as to distribute the work load as required.

Installations are carried out by 2- or 3-person teams consisting of an experienced foreman and 1 or 2 installers. Projects vary widely in scope from small projects requiring a Crew for roughly day to large projects requiring a Crew for several weeks on site (large projects may take several years from kick-off to final certification). Overall project load approximately $5M to $7M. There are multiple projects that are active at any one time. The job is located in Dundas, Ontario. The majority of our project sites are within Southern/Central Ontario however some across Canada.

The preferred Candidate will have

construction trades experience

and have a proven track record of more responsible positions in Project Management or Coordination/Site Supervision, and be looking to the next level in a Project Management capacity. They will have experience and knowledge of Project Management tools and techniques and overall experience and understanding of the construction industry.

Training and support for Industry-specific codes and standards (CSA, UL, NFPA) will be provided as part of the training process, although knowledge of this industry is an asset.

PROJECT RELATED COMPETENCIES



Working in conjunction with the management team and the project coordinator :



Reviews purchase orders and/or sub-contract documents from the client and along with the estimator, reviews project scope and identifies risks and omissions. Takes control of the project.

Develops scope/time budget package for each project and assigns and reviews with Foreman

Prepares and delivers required project start-up documents (shop drawings, schedules, safety documentation, certifications, forms, etc.)

Analyses client-reviewed shop drawings, answers questions and makes changes as required prior to scheduling installation.

Identifies and schedules resources needed (labour, special material, equipment rentals, utility locates, etc.) Manage the quantity of installation staff to fulfill the needs of the projects including recruitment of new personnel, interviews, new installer orientation, layoff recommendations, etc. Working with the Construction Superintendent, assigns projects to Foremen/Crews

Manages up to six (6) 2-3 person crews: orientation training, assigning, scheduling, monitoring work quality and productivity, coaching, mentoring, and disciplining installation employees.


Working with the estimator, reviews, understands and tracks project budget (time, material, third party resources) and compares to pricing estimate on a continuous basis. Recognizes problems and takes steps to rectify.

Reviews, understands and tracks project specifications (codes and standards, project-specific requirements)

Reviews, understands and tracks project schedule. Internal software is available for this task.

Coordinates project execution with client; negotiates changes of scope/costs if applicable

Prepares input for monthly progress draws Resolves/escalates client/project issues Minimizes our exposure to risk on project
Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately

Arranges for Union Labour, if required; manages project-related Union interface

Manages project budget

Supports bidding/quotation process

As the Company Safety Officer, responsible for the Safety Manual, Safety Training of personnel, management of safety equipment, Third-Party safety accreditations, Site Safety Plans, etc. Investigates and reports WSIB claims.



Reviews inventory of materials with the shop foreman and places order to our suppliers to maintain inventory for the installations.

REQUIREMENTS



7-15 years experience in the construction industry

5-7 years as construction project supervisor/site manager/project manager

Direct trade experience in architectural (e.g. roofing), electrical, (preferred) or general trades

Direct experience supervising trade workers

Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook). Additional skills in Microsoft Project and AutoCAD and Microsoft Teams, would be an asset)

Experience in budgeting projects (time/materials/sub-contracts)

Direct trade (hands-on) experience would be an asset

Knowledge of Lightning Protection Systems would be an asset

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $100,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
