Our Team:
Grand River Transit (GRT) provides transit service to the three cities, and four townships in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. We operate more than 50 routes and cover more than 20 million kilometers every year. Our fleet consists of more than 300 vehicles, including conventional and MobilityPLUS buses and ION light rail trains. We have more than 2,500 stops across the region, and more than 560 shelters.

The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Transit Development, this opportunity allows you to help deliver Region\xe2\x80\x99s strategic vision of a sustainable transportation system. Using your strong leadership skills you will help plan, implement, and deliver complex low energy transportation projects. You will have the opportunity to help implement low energy transportation priorities from the Transform Waterloo Region Climate Action Plan and the Grand River Transit Business Plan. You will act as the Division\xe2\x80\x99s champion, positioning transportation activities through an energy consumption lens to support the Region\xe2\x80\x99s current and future emissions targets. Apply your Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
You will supervise Principal Planners (Transit).
As subject matter expert, you will plan short, medium, and long-term low energy transportation projects, which range in scope and value (up to $10M), working within the Region\xe2\x80\x99s Climate and Energy Transition Governance Structure on project prioritization to accelerate the shift to low-energy mobility in the community.
You will use your strong project management skills to provide strategic leadership, oversight, and coordination within the Division to support the Region\xe2\x80\x99s current and future emissions targets.
You will act as liaison for the Community Planning Division on corporate carbon budget, corporate climate transition strategy, and data requests.
You will have the responsibility of overseeing project management duties for low energy transportation projects spanning the Division.
You will have the opportunity to engage and work with internal and external partners to ensure appropriate project standards are met and to develop and administer new or existing projects.
You will manage projects, including creating project scope, determining resource and budget requirements, developing project schedules and documentation in collaboration with stakeholders and steering committees.
You will use your leadership skills to chair project team meetings ensuring all stakeholders are represented and involved.
You will use your skills and expertise to analyze interdependencies between projects and makes recommendation on strategic project options.
You will keep in regular consultation with stakeholders on implementation, maintenance issues and budgeting.
You will coordinate project implementation with staff and stakeholders and collaborate with the communications and marketing staff on promotional campaigns.
You will act as a resource and provide expertise to divisional senior management in the delivery of projects and give presentations to management, staff, and Committees.
You will have the opportunity to research and develop low energy transportation projects, best practices, and product/service information in the industry.
You will support applications for government funding for initiatives and have contact with government staff regarding funding, programs, and regulations.
You will administer contracts for low energy transportation products and services, negotiate with vendors, contractors, property owners, and other stakeholders to develop and support agreement in compliance with corporate policies and to meet service level expectations.
Performs related duties as required.

Apply Your Experience at the Region of Waterloo

Knowledge and skills are normally acquired through a university degree in Business, Planning, Environmental Management, Environmental Studies, Sustainability or related discipline, plus progressively responsible related experience managing complex multi-stakeholder projects.
Functional knowledge and understanding of low emission, low energy, and sustainability programs, principles, and practices.
Functional knowledge and understanding of planning and development practices, procedures, and systems to plan and coordinate projects within legislative frameworks.
Project management skills to manage multi-stakeholder projects.
Commitment to continuous improvement, sustainability, and energy transition to accelerate the Division\xe2\x80\x99s shift to low-energy mobility in the community.
Analytical, research, organization, and problem-solving skills to plan and develop project schedules, scope, budget, and timelines, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, coordinate work of staff, and recommend changes to existing low-energy transportation programs.
Communication, leadership, facilitation, negotiation, and human relations skills to supervise, train, develop, motivate, and support staff to achieve goals, develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, negotiate agreements, present reports and respond to inquiries, and participate as an effective team member.
Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, collective agreements, related legislation, federal and provincial plans, regional and area municipal plans and policies, and relevant by-laws.
Ability to write detailed project plans, including project schedules, scope, timelines, budget, reports, correspondence, and project documentation and close out/hand off notes.
Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office.
Ability to adjust schedule to work evenings to accommodate meetings.
Ability to adjust regular hours to complete project milestones.
Ability to travel within Waterloo Region.
Ability to support and demonstrate the Region\xe2\x80\x99s values.
