Overview
Of Position
To provide strategic leadership, planning, and coordination of Engineer-to-Order (ETO) packaging equipment and automation projects. The ETO Project Manager is responsible for ensuring timely, cost-effective, and customer-satisfying execution of projects from sales support through post-installation warranty follow-up.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales Support & Project Kickoff
Collaborate with the Sales Team prior to and after purchase order (PO) receipt to validate project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
Review and input project information into the ERP/ETO system.
Attend site visits for layout confirmation or technical clarification, as required.
2. Project Planning & Execution
Serve as the primary customer interface throughout the project.
Create and manage Gantt charts and timelines to maintain alignment with key milestones and delivery schedules.
Host regular internal and customer meetings with clear agendas, detailed notes, and actionable items.
Continuously update project stakeholders, ensuring alignment and accountability.
3. Engineering & Technical Coordination
Communicate clear and accurate technical requirements to internal teams at initiation and throughout the project.
Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and controls teams to develop approval drawings, equipment layouts, schematics, manuals, and spare parts lists.
Manage Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) planning and execution, including documentation and customer approvals.
Support scope adjustments via RFCOs and ensure documentation aligns with customer contracts.
4. Procurement & Vendor Management
Generate and track POs for third-party vendors; manage component approvals, deliveries, and sample validations.
Work closely with the Purchasing Team to align deliveries with customer milestones and invoicing schedules.
Ensure vendor compliance with technical specs and project deadlines.
5. Installation, Service & Training Coordination
Work with the Service Manager to schedule technicians for installation, FATs, and on-site training.
Conduct pre-installation reviews and daily installation check-ins to track scope, task durations, and site progress.
Complete site service reports, time tracking (Clockify), and expenses documentation after each visit.
6. Cost Management & Reporting
Monitor and manage project budgets and profitability throughout the project lifecycle.
Maintain an active action item tracker to ensure timely task closure.
Provide twice-weekly project updates at Management Review Meetings (PRB).
Support customer satisfaction surveys and ensure smooth handoff to warranty/service teams post-installation.
7. Post-Project & Warranty Support
Share contact lists with the customer for post-project technical support.
Conduct follow-ups to ensure satisfaction and verify equipment performance.
Attend customer sites if required for FATs or performance validation.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering or demonstrated equivalent knowledge typically acquired from relevant work experience
10+ years of experience managing custom projects in automation, robotics, or packaging machinery
Strong background in ETO/CTO environments with cross-functional team leadership
Technical & Software Skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and 3D CAD tools
Experience with packaging machines, robotic manipulators, and electrical systems
Familiarity with diagnostic tools: multimeters, tachometers, micrometers, and software-based diagnostics
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Teams)
Project management software experience (MS Project, Wrike, etc.)
Preferred qualifications
PMP designation or equivalent project management certification
Experience in food packaging or automation industries
Multilingual communication skills
Professional & interpersonal competencies
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to train customers on complex technical systems
Experience balancing multiple priorities under tight deadlines
Proven track record of building effective relationships with customers, vendors, and internal departments
Culturally aware and adaptable for international project execution
Working conditions
Based at Propack headquarters with frequent travel to customer or vendor sites (including international)
Ability to work in diverse industrial environments (packaging plants, integration centers, supplier facilities)
Valid passport and ability to obtain international travel documentation
