Position Highlights



As a Project Manager 2 in BC Hydro's Project Delivery team, you will be responsible for planning and executing of a portion


of BC Hydro's multi-billion dollar portfolio of generation, transmission and substation projects. The Project Delivery team


consists of professionals (employees and contractors) with diverse roles and backgrounds, working together with internal


and external partners to deliver quality projects safely, on scope, on budget, and on schedule for the Province. At any time,


Project Delivery is managing over 500 projects in various phases, from early Identification through in-service close-out,


ranging in cost from $1M to over $1B.




As part of this team, you will lead projects that make improvements to BC Hydro's dams, associated water conveyance


structures, as well as projects from other teams as opportunities arise. The projects can often involve collaborating with the


full spectrum of engineering disciplines, departments across BC Hydro and around the province, and interfacing with


external stakeholders and regulators. A key part of many projects is supporting First Nations Consultation and


Reconciliation efforts through procurement opportunities and developing other win-win scenarios. Strong verbal and written


communication skills are put to work daily as new activities, deliverables, and challenges arise. A positive attitude, problem


solving orientation, and big picture awareness of the project and it's role in organizational goals are necessary for success


in the senior Project Manager 2 roles.


What you'll do




Acts as a senior project manager in Project Delivery for multiple projects with medium to high risk/impact/complexity and
with significant regulatory oversight.


Travel to sites across the province may be required to meet with operations staff, construction management, First Nations
and stakeholders during the planning, design and construction phases of projects. The base role is Hybrid based from BC


Hydro's Edmonds office in Burnaby. PM's typically travel 4-8 times per year depending on circumstances.


May act as a Program Manager to ensure efficient and consistent delivery of a group of projects. Develops project plans, including scope, budget, schedule and project team responsibilities in order to accomplish project
objectives.


Develops and presents business cases, prepares project reports and, at completion, finalizes all financial transactions and
completes final reports.


Manages the full life cycle of the project within agreed upon scope, timeline and budget, using considerable innovation in


the planning, analysis and execution of tasks and judgment in the assessment and resolution of unusual problems.


Drives project progress to ensure the work is carried out in the most cost-effective manner. Ensures that internal and external resources with appropriate skill sets are provided, establishes commercial
arrangements with consultants and contractors as required, assigns work and provides instructions, advice and technical


leadership and guidance to project staff; reviews work in progress and assesses completed work for accuracy, required


results and quality assurance.


Leads and coaches professional project teams with various experience levels to successfully track and deliver on
assigned projects that draw on internal and external resources which include Stakeholder Relations, Indigenous Relations,


Engineering, Environment, Finance, Regulatory, Properties, Operations, Legal Counsel, Safety, and others.


Actively monitor and manage project risks - identification, mitigation, reduction - on an ongoing basis throughout the
project lifecycle


Demonstrates independent judgment outside of identified guidelines for critical project problems. Support BC Hydro Project and Program Management (PPM) compliance across the portfolio and may act as a Project
Independent Reviewer (PIR) to other projects. Ensure the quality of project documentation is aligned with the intent of BC


Hydro's PPM Practice and reflective of the complexity and risks of the project.


Model the 'One-Hydro' approach ensuring that decisions support the broader needs of the organization which could
include participating internal initiatives. A key component of the One-Hydro approach is fostering collaboration amongst


parts of the organization.


Represent BC Hydro as the 'Contract Owner' or 'Hydro's Representative' on construction, services and equipment
contracts. Support project teams to reduce BC Hydro's exposure to contract claims and participates in contract and claim


negotiations with suppliers and contractors.


Review and approve financial commitments and payments to Financial Authorization Approval Policy (FAAP) limits.

What you bring




Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline such as Engineering, Business, or Environmental Sciences or equivalent are
preferred. Candidates with Diplomas may be considered.


Project Management Certification is preferred, additional Professional designations are considered an asset. Nine to 12 years related experience in fields of expertise within an electric utility or similar environment, with considerable
project management knowledge, skills and experience, as demonstrated by successful project management of projects up


to and over $100M in value. Candidates with lesser work experience may be considered for a lower level position.


Ability to adjust planning and execution in response to changing circumstances and uncertainties related to the project. Demonstrated ability to understand and deliver on the intent of PPM deliverables while communicating and managing
risks and supporting others to manage deliverables to this intent.


Proven leadership ability in managing, motivating and developing a team. Preferred field experience engaging with plant operations and construction management. Excellent report writing, communication, facilitation, negotiation, presentation and interpersonal skills. Well developed planning, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated experience related to Dam Safety projects would be a valuable asset.
