Annual salary: $ 107,000.00 - 135,300.00


Position Highlights



We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented construction planner to join our team. The successful candidate will


use their on-site experience to help assist the regional Construction Management divisions with specific early project


planning deliverables, as well as help support larger portfolio-level strategic planning activities. This role works


collaboratively with stakeholders and leaders across BC Hydro to meet our business objectives, corporate standards, and


policies.




This role is based in the Construction Planning, Practice and Controls team within our Capital Construction business unit.




The ideal candidate will help support a diverse portfolio of projects supporting BC Hydro's 10-year capital plan. You'll be


responsible for developing early project-phase planning deliverables such as construction management plans,


constructability reviews, supporting contract development and construction work package estimation.




This role requires a keen eye for detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various


stakeholders to mitigate risks and monitor schedule performance.


The successful candidate will work closely with other construction planners in the group, as well as construction managers


and other project team members.


What you'll do




Ensures that all aspects of construction work and associated activities related to assigned projects are planned in
accordance with BC Hydro's PPM Practices and is carried out effectively in terms of safety, quality, schedule, cost and


scope.




Apply BC Hydro Construction and Contract Management (CCM) practice to provide early project planning and
successfully identify and mitigate project risks relating to construction.




Develop work package agreements in consultation with Capital Projects and Operations teams.


Provides leadership and ensures compliance with safety requirements.


Provide technical guidance and facilitate appropriate constructability reviews and oversight for projects as required.


Actively participate in procurement activities for complex, high risk contracts by reviewing High Level Project Documents.


Be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for BC Hydro Construction and Contract Management (CCM) Practice and BC Hydro
Contracts for all phases of the project.




Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams for construction planning and for exchange of information.


Work with regional construction teams to identify planning requirements and ensure adequate resources are in place to
meet multi-year project and program plans.



Identify & support improvements to CCM Practice, especially as it relates to pre-construction planning activities.


Assists in development of business unit objectives, customer needs, and performance measurements.


Provides input to the public consultation process as it pertains to construction site activities and issues.

What you bring




University degree or technical training in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering or a related discipline.


5+ years of experience performing construction and contract management, claim management, project management,
construction quality management, and procurement on large infrastructure projects. Equivalent combination of education


and experience will also be considered.




On-site experience with major infrastructure projects or projects within an electric utility environment is an asset.


Includes experience managing construction and equipment installation contracts, including managing contract changes
and disputes.




Ability to relate and discuss issues with a range of professionals from trade people to senior management.


Demonstrated knowledge in industry project controls, construction scheduling and data software.


Proven team player and relationship-builder with strong analytical and communications skills with the ability to take
ownership of issues, initiate actions and make effective decisions.




Excellent written and verbal communications skills; relationship management; collaboration and interpersonal skills.


Ability to travel to construction sites both within and outside of the region infrequently.


Creativity and innovation in developing construction solutions is desirable.


Knowledge of BC Hydro systems, policies and procedures, COPE Collective Agreement, contracting principles, health &
safety and environmental regulations relevant to utility contracts skills are desirable.




Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs - Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
