This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

In accordance with the this position has an approximate appointment of 3 years and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at and annual salary range of $85,727 - $117,876.

Location

This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person, with on-site work taking place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Working for the Department/Faculty

The Clinical Trials Office (CTO) provides Quality Management, Regulatory Affairs, and Operational support for all regulated clinical trials conducted by Faculty affiliated with the University of Alberta. The CTO also serves as the secretariat for University of Alberta Clinical Trials (UACT).

Position Summary

The Indigenous ACT Project Lead will serve as the national administrative lead of the Indigenous component of the grant and will provide overall project development, implementation, management support and coordination. Dr. Wayne Clark is is a co-applicant and the National Academic Lead of the Indigenous component of this CIHR grant project. The Project Lead will provide financial oversight and control of $2.2 million over three years allocated for this Indigenous component.

Duties

ACT Consortium objectives are:

• Establish a pan-Canadian Consortium of excellence in Indigenous clinical trials
• Expand and support existing clinical trial networks and develop new Indigenous networks in areas of community-identified needs.
• Accelerate the conduct and efficiency of Indigenous clinical trials in Canada.
• Expand Canadian Indigenous participation in international trials and vice versa.
• Strengthen the coordination of Indigenous clinical trials, and facilitate collaboration and harmonization among trial units, networks, and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must have knowledge of the community and Indigenous Governance structures
• Must have knowledge and experience in community development and implementing community-based programs
• Full understanding of TRC Calls to Action (particularly 18-24, which pertain to health including an emphasis on preserving Indigenous languages and cultural practices), Principles of OCAP\xc2\xae, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and Tri-Council Policy Statement, Chapter 9.
• Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated involvement in the communities and a solid understanding of community development principles, Indigenous methodologies and research approaches, and Northern Indigenous cultural protocol.
• Flexibility in available hours to accommodate varying schedules, including travel for research activities, meetings, and long-stay work in communities as required (up to 4 weeks at a time).
• Strong competency using Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new applications.
• Ability to understand multiple perspectives and respond to diverse needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preference will be given to those with an Indigenous heritage
• Strong project coordination, reporting, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Project Management experience or training
• Experience or training with Finances
• Experience with research/research projects
• Formalized training such as post-secondary training in Project Management
• Preference will be given to those with a PHD Degree. A Master degree with experience in Indigneous health research, community-led research, or clinical research.
• Must have extensive knowledge and experience working in Northwest Territories communities. Familiarity with territorial, provincial, and/or federal government research processes is required. Experience working/living in Northern Indigenous communities is required.
• Experience working in a health research environment is an asset.
