The Opportunity
McElhanney Ltd. is looking for a commissioned Alberta Land Surveyor with extensive experience to join our team in Grande Prairie, Alberta, as Project Land Surveyor. The incumbent will lead a variety of interesting and challenging regional survey projects. The successful individual will manage a variety of Crown Land surveys, road and utility infrastructure surveys, topographic surveys, and construction and engineering layout. This intermediate level role is ideal for a self-driven, superior communicator who enjoys the challenge and satisfaction derived from being part of an established multidisciplinary team.

What You'll Do
Working in a team setting to establish project scope, budget and schedule, and other project or client expectations.
Leading survey crews on projects; communicating scope and scheduling information to crew members.
Managing project budgets and financial reporting.
Managing various survey project types including legal, energy focused surveys, occasional land development (subdivisions) and infrastructure, topographic, engineering and construction layout.
Liaising with both internal (McElhanney) and external Project Managers and clients.
Manage information flow from field to final deliverables.
Providing mentorship, guidance, and training to assist with subordinate's professional development.
Ensuring quality assurance procedures are carried out for proposals, field returns, drawings, legal plans, documents, and other deliverables.
Providing advice to clients on property and legal survey matters.
Other duties as required.
What You'll Bring
Ideally candidates will possess a current Alberta Land Surveyor (ALS) Commission and be in current good standing with ALSA, or an equivalent Canadian provincial land surveying commission with the ability to quickly obtain an ALS commission.
Registered articling students who are close to obtaining their ALS commission will be considered.
5 years' experience post-commission is preferred; 10 years total experience in surveying, ideally in energy type projects.
Demonstrated experience in Project Management and Business Development, and the ability to deliver projects on time and budget.
Ability to lead, develop, and motivate a team of survey staff and work well in a team environment; prior supervisory or management experience is a definite asset.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Proficiency in computer applications (Microsurvey and Trimble Business Center at minimum).
Periods of travel may be required for the role.
Valid Class 5 driver's license.
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $130,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
