Project Geotechnical Engineer - Trenchless and Tunnels

McMillen Jacobs Associates has an opportunity available for a Project Geotechnical Engineer to join its team in Vancouver. This position is well suited for a recent geotechnical engineering graduate with an interest in consulting engineering for the heavy civil and underground construction industry. The company is seeking a candidate, with 4 to 8 years of experience and a strong desire to learn about tunnels design, shafts, foundations, and trenchless pipe crossings. This position offers a great opportunity for a motivated, detail-oriented, team-centric graduate engineer to work on diverse jobs, from local pipeline crossings to regional transit and water and wastewater mega-projects. The successful candidate will work primarily in the downtown Vancouver office, as well as in the field.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating geologic conditions and geotechnical characteristics for assessment and design
  • Analyzing field data and preparing detailed engineering reports and recommendations
  • Performing various geotechnical analysis related to rock tunnel support, kinematic analysis, soft soils, trenchless tunnel design, geotechnical earthquake engineering, retaining walls and engineered slopes
  • Conducting geotechnical construction field reviews for a wide range of assignments
  • Accountability for quality of product including analysis, reporting, and construction reviews
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks in a timeline manner is critical
  • Preparing proposals, budgets, and scheduling of technical field staff
  • Communicating with clients and sub-consultants and other stake holders as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in geotechnical, geological or civil engineering
  • 4-8 years geotechnical experience
  • Ideally is a registered P.Eng. or be a senior EIT
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Local experience in major infrastructure project design is an asset
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills and strong leadership qualities
  • Class 5 (or equivalent) driver's licence
  • Must be willing to travel and to work on a combination of field, construction site and office work
  • Willing to work extended and irregular hours when necessary
