Project Estimator

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Project Estimator with a background in Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering to lead the preparation of competitive and accurate estimates for mechanical, facility, and pipeline integrity projects. This role also involves managing awarded projects through to completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Estimating & Cost Management Lead the preparation of detailed and competitive estimate packages for complex projects. Prepare direct and indirect cost estimates with minimal supervision. Solicit and analyze subtrade and supplier pricing; maintain subtrade database. Incorporate drawing and specification requirements into estimates and assess potential risks. Stay current with market rates for materials, labor, and equipment; provide cost insights to the team. Lead value engineering efforts to optimize project costs and performance.

Project Planning & Scheduling

Review and develop construction schedules; ensure alignment with estimates and methodologies. Assist in defining project scope and objectives with all relevant stakeholders. Translate project scope into tasks, assign responsibilities, and develop timelines. Work with resource management to plan and allocate resources effectively.

Project Execution & Monitoring

Track and analyze project performance, costs, and schedules; identify and report risks or deviations. Collaborate with subtrades to maintain project momentum and adherence to schedule. Communicate changes in scope, schedule, or cost to the Project Manager. Ensure OH&S requirements are met on-site and perform quality assurance checks.

Documentation & Communication

Assist in drawing reviews and coordinate RFIs from subtrades to consultants. Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Report and escalate issues to management as needed. Close out projects, ensuring deliverables are handed over to operations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in either Mechanical or Petroleum engineering. Candidates with experience in pipeline or facility construction estimation will be given preference; however, training will be provided for the right candidate without prior experience. Strong understanding of work breakdown structures and pipeline construction divisions. Proven ability to lead estimating efforts and manage projects with minimal supervision. Experience in project cost control, schedule tracking, and risk management.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Professional demeanor with the ability to build credibility with internal and external stakeholders. Flexible schedule with the ability to make site visits during construction phases.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY:

Proficient in MS Office Suite (Projects, Outlook, Excel and Word). Experienced with On-Screen Takeoff and Bluebeam. Familiarity with pipeline construction documents and ability to assist in document review.
