In this role, you will lead the design of transportation facilities within the Neighbourhood Renewal Program. Reporting directly to a Senior Engineer, you will lead the preparation of designs for roads, sidewalks, alleys, safety improvements/traffic calming and active transportation facilities. This position will see you collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, both internal and external, ensuring projects are completed on time and to the City's high standards. What will you do?
Provide instructions and guidance to in-house engineering technologists to prepare drawings for tender, and Issued For Construction
Review, verify, update and authenticate design deliverables, primarily Engineering drawings and grade design sheets, produced in-house
Work with the Develop and Deliver Project Management teams to facilitate the accurate and on-time delivery of in-house designed Neighbourhood Renewal projects
Coordinate project designs with internal City and utility partners
Respond to inquiries related to design practices, standards, guidelines, and design exceptions
Provide technical feedback on concept and planning level designs
Complete design walks and data collection to determine feasibility, existing conditions, constraints, and potential issues of neighbourhood renewal projects
Conduct any additional field work or site inspections
Be a reviewer, provide feedback/recommendations/comments, and recommend approval on externally prepared Professional Work Products
Strategize with design consultants for problem-solving and potential design exceptions for areas that cannot meet current standards or guidelines
Support Project Managers and the design consultant for the design process, including attending meetings and providing oversight and comments during the creation of concept plans, all field walks, design decisions and final grade design
Participating in the preparation, execution and follow-up of public engagement events for Neighbourhood Designs
Provide support to the leadership team to implement the Department's Health and Safety and ENVISO programs
Reviewing and providing comments on internal City circulations and utility plans
Support Senior Engineer/Supervisor/Director in initiatives, continuous improvement projects, and other group led projects
Sit on committees or working groups for internal purposes such as safety committees, change management working groups, etc.
Qualifications
:Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university
Must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing and registered with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to commencement of employment
Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible experience in roadways or transportation engineering and design
Assets:
Additional training or knowledge of traffic engineering, drainage engineering, structural engineering and roadway construction techniques
Experience with AutoCAD
Skills required for success:
Knowledge of geometric design of roadways and familiarity with design standards and guidelines such as the City of Edmonton Complete Streets Design and Construction standards and TAC (Transportation Association of Canada) guidelines and principles
Knowledge of City Bylaws, Policies, Servicing Standards, procedures and specifications
Well developed communication (presentation, verbal and written), interpersonal and relationship building skills are required
Ability to multitask, prioritize and produce results in a fast paced, changing environment
Must be proficient with Google Suite (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms)

Up to:
1 temporary full-time position for up to 18 months
Hours of work:
36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Salary:
$92,106.08 - $115,131.63 (Annually)
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and office, and will require site visits and outdoor reviews at the construction site
This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
