Job Description

Reporting to the General Manager of Engineering, the Project Engineer is responsible for providing leadership, supervision and project management expertise for engineering design and construction assignments related to Capital, Operations & Infrastructure, or development projects. The Project Engineer will ensure that designs meet City, engineering and legislative standards and protects public safety.





This position requires the ability to anticipate needs, think critically, and offer solutions to problems with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.



The Project Engineer will:




Administer capital projects from inception to completion by developing designs, preparing schedules, and guiding technical staff through the execution of projects related to roads, bridges, intersections and sidewalks, water, wastewater and storm systems, building and renovation and land development, etc. Supervise and manage technical staff supporting the planning, design and delivery of capital projects. Responsible for the preparation of design drawings, specifications and pre-construction estimates. Ensure projects and workplaces comply with legislation, regulations, City of Kenora by-laws, standards and policies. Provide engineering reviews, comments and inspections of the City's Infrastructure components for new subdivision, condominium, site plan developments and redevelopment proposals. Analyze engineering designs of capital projects using software and professional acumen. Provide technical advice, reviews and expertise utilizing standard engineering principles and practices. Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team of contractors, colleagues, elected officials, consultants, developers, and other internal and external clients and project partners. Assist in the preparation of annual project budget by preparing cost estimates of projects.

Qualifications:




Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering. Registered and licensed as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Ontario or registered and licensed as a Professional Engineer in Canada and will obtain a license in Ontario. Minimum of five (5) years of construction, engineering and project management experience related to infrastructure and facility projects. Demonstrated supervisory experience. Experience in preparing and/or reviewing utility servicing and storm water management reports, engineering studies and drawings submitted in support of development projects or applications Experience in Engineering principles, practices and methods. Knowledge of GPS Surveying, Total Station Surveying, GIS and CAD Software. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Planning Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act*, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and any other applicable legislation.
Must possess valid 'G' class driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle Ability to deal with sensitive or confidential matters with tact, discretion, and diplomacy. Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, project partners and the public. Well-developed organizational and time management skills suited to a fast-paced environment. Ability to think critically, prioritize work to meet deadlines and be flexible to changing conditions
