We are currently in a position to grow our team through the addition of an Engineering Project Manager.
The LRT Expansion & Renewal Branch is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of LRT capital projects such as Metro Line, Valley Line and Capital Line. The Branch is guided by and aligned with Council's strategic goals, The City Plan, and numerous other Council approved policies and initiatives. The direction set by these strategic plans, priorities, and policies have culminated in a commitment to create a compact and more integrated urban environment, and establish an integrated mass transit network that connects people to destinations. In contribution to this vision, the LRT Expansion & Renewal Branch is currently overseeing approximately $6 billion in LRT expansion projects.
The Project Engineer in Training (EIT) will be working under the supervision of experienced engineers in an integrated, multi-disciplinary team environment composed of staff from across the department. This role offers immersion in the delivery phase of transit projects, ensuring adherence to engineering principles and City of Edmonton standards. The EIT will be involved in producing design deliverables, coordinating with stakeholders, and contributing to testing and commissioning activities, with opportunities for independent recommendation generation while reporting to an Engineer Program Manager.
What will you do?
Participate in delivering infrastructure projects using standardized project management methodologies and tools under the supervision of a professional engineer
Engage business partners to create and execute Scope Charters which includes engaging business partners in design reviews, facilitate comment resolution, ensure quality, and oversee commissioning
Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external partners and consultants on project related works
Respond to or provide support for internal and external project inquiries
Support contract administration by providing technical feedback and administrative support on contract changes and non-conformance reports
Conduct field work or site inspections as required
Be immersed in the production of design and construction deliverables, including reports, technical analysis, and detailed construction drawings and specifications
Work with the owner's engineer to prepare, coordinate, track, complete, and circulate as-built drawings, and manage general document and drawing control
Provide feedback/recommendations/comments on and recommend for approval externally prepared Professional Work Products, applying City of Edmonton Design and Construction Standards and LRT Design Guidelines best practices
Review design consultant recommendations for areas that cannot meet standards or guidelines and recommend for approval by a Professional Engineer
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering
Knowledge and work experience in project management and construction management skills
Knowledge of City and Transportation Association of Canada guidelines and standards
Must be registered as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with APEGA (in good standing) and working towards a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to commencement of employment
Assets:
Engineering Co-op and/or Summer work experience
Transit project or coursework experience
Knowledge of City Bylaws, Servicing Standards, procedures and specifications
Training or knowledge of LRT signals and electrification, traffic engineering, structural engineering, drainage engineering, and/or roadway construction techniques
Skills required for success:
An understanding of project management methods and techniques (PM BOK best practices)
Well-developed communication (presentation, verbal, and written) and conflict resolution skills, along with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and produce results in a fast-paced environment
Effective time management and ability to work on multiple competing priorities
Proficiency with Google Suite (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms) is required

Conditions of employment & work environment:
Up to: 3 permanent full-time positions
Hours of work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Salary: $34.563 - $42.011 (Hourly); $72,167.54 - $87,718.97 (Annually)
This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)
This position ?may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement ?with ?the flexibility to work from both home and office, and will require site visits and outdoor reviews at the construction site?
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
