Join us as we build a knowledgeable and collaborative team that courageously changes how transit projects will be delivered.Our Capital Projects Group GO&UP is seeking a Project Director, SCADA, to lead the implementation of SCADA systems at Metrolinx. This role will ensure effective integration of subsystems to achieve Metrolinx\'s project outcomes. Reporting to the Deputy, GO Expansion On Corridor Works, you will provide subject matter expertise on SCADA-related projects, guiding system design, implementation, and testing. A primary focus will be aligning system specifications with operational goals to enhance reliability, efficiency, and safety across our electrified rail operations.What will I be doing?

  • The Project Director will be responsible for visualizing project outcomes from a systems perspective, focusing on SCADA and its integration within broader system designs.
  • They will manage the end-to-end lifecycle of system integration projects, peeling back the layers of various subsystems to ensure SCADA is cohesively bonded with telecoms and other relevant technologies.
  • The role involves close collaboration with internal and external teams on design and implementation, ensuring that systems meet operational requirements.
  • Frequent coordination with third-party partners, and internal stakeholders like the Network Operations Center (NOC), will be essential. Additionally, the Project Director will engage with stakeholders across various delivery teams, including the Project Delivery Team (PDT), to ensure smooth communication and project progression.
  • Assess SCADA system requirements in the context of the entire operational landscape, visualizing outcomes that align with the company\'s strategic objectives and safety standards. This includes
  • defining technical specifications and performance benchmarks that integrate SCADA seamlessly with railway operations.
  • Responsible for developing a strategic roadmap that outlines the phased deployment of SCADA components and system enhancements over time. This roadmap will address project goals, anticipated challenges, and necessary adjustments to optimize SCADA\'s role within the broader infrastructure.
  • Lead integration efforts across multiple domains (e.g., telecom, cybersecurity, IT, and operational safety) to create a unified system design. This includes collaborating with IT and telecom engineers to resolve interface challenges and conducting joint testing to validate that SCADA functions correctly with associated subsystems.
  • Anticipate and proactively manage risks related to system integration, including potential conflicts in subsystem compatibility, security vulnerabilities, and operational disruptions. This involves developing risk mitigation plans and swiftly addressing issues that arise during testing and deployment.
  • Implement best practices and standardized processes for SCADA integration, including developing documentation and protocols that can be replicated across future projects. This includes maintaining up-to-date, detailed system architecture diagrams and integration blueprints.
  • Act as a technical liaison between stakeholders, particularly when discussing SCADA\'s technical requirements and integration strategies with teams that may not have a SCADA or engineering background. Ensure that the technical aspects of SCADA are clearly communicated and aligned with other systems\' requirements.
  • Lead efforts to monitor SCADA system performance and ensure it meets expected operational metrics. Establish feedback loops with the NOC and other teams to continuously evaluate system effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement by evaluating system integration outcomes and identifying areas for optimization. Lead change management processes, including training for relevant teams and updating documentation to reflect system upgrades and lessons learned from each project.
  • Coordinate closely with cybersecurity teams to embed security protocols within SCADA and related subsystems, ensuring that integration does not introduce vulnerabilities. This includes overseeing regular security audits and implementing real-time monitoring capabilities.
  • Oversee comprehensive testing and validation protocols for SCADA integration, ensuring that each subsystem is fully functional and reliable within the larger system.
  • Lead scenario-based testing sessions to simulate real-world usage, identifying any integration issues before full deployment.
  • Coordinate with training teams to ensure end-users are proficient with the newly integrated SCADA functionalities, providing technical support and documentation as needed to ensure smooth adoption.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Engineering and/or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Proven progressive leadership experience in SCADA systems, automation, or industrial control systems.
  • Experience in complex infrastructure environments such as rail, utilities, energy, or transportation.
  • Proven track record managing the end-to-end lifecycle of SCADA projects, from planning and design to implementation and integration, with a demonstrated ability to handle technical, budgetary, and scheduling challenges.
  • Strong technical knowledge of SCADA software and hardware\'s.
  • Extensive experience integrating SCADA with other enterprise and operational systems, such as ERP, asset management systems, and telecommunications.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale projects from initiation through completion, with demonstrated expertise in budgeting, scheduling, risk assessment, and quality control.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies.
  • Strong experience in managing internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to guide and mentor cross-functional teams, as well as the ability to communicate technical information effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in the oversight, evaluation, and assurance of system integration to achieve performance metrics, develop and realize KPI\'s for the asset class or systemwide function for reliability, availability, and performance requirements consistent with the organizational strategic plan, customer level of service and business objectives.
