The VP Research invites applications for a Project Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Vice President's (Research) (VPR) Office at UCalgary is currently seeking a Project Coordinator (PC) to work with faculty in pursuing and obtaining novel and/or high impact funding opportunities. This newly created position will provide the PC the exciting opportunity to engage faculty across the diverse research landscape, gaining an understanding of the cutting-edge research being undertaken at UCalgary, and playing a critical role of helping faculty acquire research funds.
The PC is a full-time position which reports to the Manager, Strategic Opportunities (MSO), in the VPR Office. The PC will work closely with the MSO in managing various projects, with a focus on the lifecycle of strategic non-traditional government funding opportunities, including identification of novel opportunities, faculty engagement, assistance during the submission process, and follow-up. The PC's responsibilities during this process will include preparing comprehensive action plans, developing timeframes, monitoring progress, ensuring internal requirements are met, and understanding application details. On occasion the PC may be asked to assist in technical writing elements of funding applications.
To succeed in this role, the applicant should have superior written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects at various stages. A background in research is required to ensure the capacity to understand the details of funding opportunities and contribute to technical writing when required.
The position requires the ability to use discretion, maintain professionalism, confidentiality and composure under pressure, demonstrate adaptability and flexibility and provide efficient, quality service often requiring multi-tasking simultaneous priorities.
High volume and variety of work demands, much of which are driven by internal and external imposed deadlines and requirements, can be expected. The nature of the work often includes multiple simultaneous deadlines. There is a high impact of error related to the scope of the work given that opportunities with short deadlines may be presented to various levels of senior leadership and may affect high level decision making. Moderate to high stress and pressure throughout the year, particularly during peak periods, may be encountered.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide project coordination and assistance for faculty funding opportunities as well as other funding-associated activities within the VPR Office. A secondary role will involve technical writing for funding applications.
