About the role:

Reporting to the (Operations) Director (Project Controls), the Project Controls Manager is responsible for implementing cost control, planning scheduling and document management processes, procedures, and systems in their business unit while and providing front line support for project teams as required. The incumbent monitors changing operational requirements and industry practices, and recognizes projects at risk, assisting with improvement and ensuring adherence to Graham standard practice. The incumbent oversees procedures and practices, identifying areas of concern and escalating to upper management where necessary. Capable of managing and mentoring junior project controls team personnel, with direct reports of up to 6 staff.

As a Project Controls Manager at Graham, you will:

Execution

  • Work directly with project teams during initiation to develop project execution plans and processes
  • Ensure Project Controls Standards are understood and followed.
  • Assist projects creating or strategizing the optimal integrated project systems for the project including:
  • Budget, Costing and Forecasting
  • Master Schedule and
  • Execution Planning, Work Packaging and Short Interval Planning
  • Quantity Tracking
  • Project internal and external reporting
  • Interactions with other systems including Finance, Purchasing, Quality, HSE, etc.
  • Provide ongoing support to projects, escalating issues to corporate when required
  • Communicate relevant information on process and system changes to operations staff
  • Participate in hiring and management of project controls staff including schedulers, cost controllers and document controllers
  • Review KPIs, integrating them into global project and portfolio reporting.
  • Review adherence to procedures and look for areas of good and poor performance, share accordingly
  • Support business unit as a technical specialist to interface with Client Representatives as requested
  • Participate in Project Oversight reviews or take actions as a result of a review
  • Collaborate with Operations and Corporate Services to provide support and expertise when requested.
  • Participate or Lead a project closeout review, incorporate learnings into go forward practices
Planning and Process
  • Identify local business requirements and prioritizing areas of improvement.
  • Direct and or approve system adherence to business requirements.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Project Controls and other business units to agree on priority of overall Graham improvements
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, leading the local rollout and adoption
  • Participate in GMS Business reviews when requested, ensuring fit for local business and entire company
  • Lead operations specific project controls initiatives
  • Identify Project Controls Regional Key Users to provide local support and assist with user acceptance testing
  • Develop staffing plans in conjunction with Operations Managers to meet the project for controls department personnel requirements

  • Raise awareness and concern about issues which may affect the financials.

  • Communicate well at all levels, understanding and properly interpreting questions asked by the business and promptly responding, escalating when necessary and updating the client.
  • Display a desire to help the project team, providing efficient support and advice.
  • Collaborate with peers to help answer questions and provide additional support, as necessary.
  • Identify issues and concerns before the client knows about them.

Qualifications/ Experience:
  • Equivalent to completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school, or a university degree; degree in Construction or Engineering is preferred.
  • Construction and Project Controls systems experience.
  • Subject matter expertise, with experience in multiple disciplines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate effectively with others.
  • In-depth knowledge of current cost control, document and planning / scheduling process and systems.
  • General awareness of auxiliary project management areas (HSE, accounting, quality, purchasing, commercial management).
  • Awareness of market competitors and ability to stay current on trends.
  • Strong Business acumen.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Toolbox, Project Controls software, and P6.
