German-Canadian Studies is a program of the Chair in German-Canadian Studies. It offers courses and public programming, and it pursues a program of research and publishing. The teaching, community, and research focuses on Canadians of German origin and, more broadly, migration and refugee history.
The Project Assistant Oral History is a full-time continuing position supporting research. The successful candidate will transcribe, translate, edit, and process oral history interviews. They may be asked to conduct research in archives, libraries, and online in support of the other tasks and will be invited to develop blog posts, participate in podcasts and other forms of knowledge mobilization.
Responsibilities:

• Transcribes and translates oral history interviews using MS Word, Express Scribe, and OHMS.
• Uses AI tools like ChatGPT, Turboscribe, DeepL for transcription, translation, and editing.
• Communicates with Oral History Centre staff to ensure alignment with OHC standards.
• Writes interview summaries, interviewee biographies, and project descriptions and does archival, library, and online research in support of these processing tasks, uses AI such as ChatGPT in support of those tasks.
• Creates archival hard copies and digital copies of interviews, enters metadata in extant databases.
• Communicates with interviewees or estates/heirs about copyright and release forms.
• Conducts archival, library, and online research in support of transcribing, translating, editing, and processing of interviews.
• Supports Chair in research and knowledge mobilization (blog posts, podcast contributions, etc.).

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree required.
• Fluent English skills (writing, reading, and speaking) required.
• Fluent German (listening comprehension and writing) required.
• MS Office and capacity and willingness to learn ExpressScribe transcription software, Oral History Metadata Synchronizer software, MS Office, ChatGPT, Turboscribe, and DeepL required.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The salary range for this position will be from $34,452.60 to $47,811.40 annually.
Note: The work described in this posting will be conducted in-person, with an opportunity to apply for Remote Work for up to two (2) days per week.
