As a Project Architect, you will take a leadership role in the planning, design, and delivery of complex capital projects such as recreation facilities, fire stations, operations centers, libraries, mixed-use developments, and other essential City-owned buildings. You will be accountable for ensuring these facilities are safe, durable, and accessible, while aligning with the City's strategic priorities and environmental policies. This position combines project management responsibilities with architectural expertise to provide long term value delivering key infrastructure projects. Primary duties include:
Lead project planning, design and execution: Lead end-to-end project management of complex capital projects, including scope definition, scheduling, strategy development, and budget oversight.
Consultant & Contractor Management: Oversee performance to ensure quality, scope adherence, and timely completion of deliverables.
Procurement & Contract Negotiation: Manage procurement processes, negotiate contracts, and administer consultant and contractor agreements. Analyze change requests and/or value management opportunities for cost, necessity and feasibility and identify innovative solutions.
Risk & Compliance Management: Proactively identify and mitigate project risks; ensure compliance with procurement policies, building codes, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements.
Technical Evaluation: Review technical reports and change requests to assess feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with project goals.
Permitting & Approvals: Coordinate and sequence permit applications and regulatory approvals to keep projects on schedule.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive project records, including financial tracking, risk assessments, and performance evaluations; prepare and present reports on key metrics and recommendations.
Interested Party Engagement: Lead communication and collaboration with internal departments, regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors, and interested parties in the community.
Architectural Oversight: Provide design guidance and contract administration expertise, exercising professional judgment on deviations and ensuring design integrity.
Subject Matter Expert: May act as Discipline Champion Alternative for Supply's architectural review process and prequalification process under the Architectural category.
Standards Development: Create and maintain architectural design standards and policies to guide future projects.
Early Project Development: Serve as a subject matter expert, supporting early project phases and identifying innovative design and delivery solutions.
