Part-time (Fixed Term)

Community Engagement & Lifelong Learning

Are you passionate about museum learning and dedicated to providing exceptional customer service? Are you someone who thrives on creating a warm and inclusive environment for all visitors, especially those who may be visiting a museum for the first time or vulnerable learners? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you to join our dynamic Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning team as a Programs Assistant!

POSITION SUMMARY:

In this role, you will have the chance to activate ROM as more than just a museum by fostering community-building and lifelong learning. Working closely with the Coordinators and under the guidance of the Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering meaningful, relevant, and engaging programs that include talks, workshops, community initiatives, and much more.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be the face of our programs by providing an exceptional program entry experience. From scanning or collecting tickets to checking visitors against a guest list, you will guide attendees to the program location and ensure a smooth and welcoming start.
  • Create an unforgettable visitor experience for program attendees. Your empathetic nature and excellent interpersonal skills will shine as you answer visitor questions, address their feedback and concerns, and cultivate an overall warm and inviting environment that leaves a lasting positive impression.
  • Implement day-of program logistics. You will be responsible for setting up signage, guiding speakers and facilitators to the program location, organizing materials, coordinating food drops, and managing other operational matters to ensure seamless execution.
  • Support the Coordinators with administrative tasks as required. Your attention to detail and efficient multitasking abilities will be put to good use as you respond to email and phone inquiries, follow up on program needs using a shared email account, and assist with document printing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of one-year post-secondary training/education demonstrates your commitment to personal and professional growth.
  • With a minimum of two years of related experience in a customer-facing role, you have honed your skills in providing exceptional service. Previous experience working with vulnerable communities is a significant asset that will contribute to our inclusive approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are a must-have. Your proven ability to communicate effectively with individuals of diverse ages, abilities, and levels of language fluency will be instrumental in creating an inclusive and enriching environment.
  • You thrive both independently and in a collaborative team environment. Your outstanding problem-solving skills enable you to tackle challenges with ease and find creative solutions.
  • Flexibility is key, as you will be expected to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate program schedules and ensure the best possible experience for our visitors.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Outlook and Excel, will support your day-to-day tasks and help you streamline processes.
  • Bilingualism is an asset, especially if you are fluent in a non-official language commonly used in Ontario, such as Mandarin or Cantonese, Punjabi or Urdu, Tagalog, Spanish or Portuguese, Arabic, or American Sign Language. Your language skills will enhance our ability to engage with diverse communities and create meaningful connections.
