The City of Cranbrook is looking for a creative and innovative Programming Manager for the
Recreation and Culture Department.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Recreation and Culture Director, the Programming and Marketing Manager will be
responsible for planning, organizing, and maintaining a diverse selection of recreation and cultural programs,
activities and events; and is responsible for hiring contract and in-scope employees for the functions of the
department. This role will also seek partnerships with other municipalities and local governments, agencies,
clubs/organizations, and businesses with the aim of achieving increased usage in the facilities and programs, and
attracting additional community events, including community celebrations and special events. The Manager will play a lead role in the development and administration of a comprehensive recreational,
marketing and communication program for the Recreation and Culture Department, maximizing its business
potential. The marketing program will include the promotion of programs and facilities, development of a plan to
increase facility utilization and pursue new opportunities and coordinating promotional functions to increase
business within the recreation facilities. BENEFITS

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Programming:
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate programs/services to ensure community needs are being met.
  • Organize special community events promoted through Federal, Provincial or Municipal Government
  • Participate in the development and administration of an annual department marketing plan that will

promote the services throughout the community and area.
  • Develop and manage the programming budget to maximize revenue\'s and recover costs. This includes

preparing and administering statistical reports on a quarterly and yearly basis.
  • Recruit, interview, schedule, develop, supervise, evaluate program staff and volunteers; to ensure the
delivery of quality programs that adhere to government standards, department policies, and professional
regulations.

Marketing:
\xe2\x80\xa2 Research and develop a detailed marketing plan for programming and promotion of all Recreation and
Culture facilities.
  • Actively promote facilities, special programs/events such as conventions, trade shows and concerts to

secure revenue generating events.
  • Maintain website, LED signage, and other advertising mediums.
  • Act as the media liaison for the department; co-ordinate appropriate promotional programs and materials,
including the creation of program guides and social media posts; determining the best advertising/media
for each facility, program, sport, or service.
  • Meet with user groups and community groups to conduct focus discussions and to actively promote the
Department and facilities.


Events:
\xe2\x80\xa2 Procure, manage, and execute special events for the City of Cranbrook.
  • Coordinate all event requirements including production/technical areas, operational requirements, and

staff details.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the Event \xe2\x80\x93 promotion, detailed budget, ticket sales, set up, etc., as per
the marketing plan, complete evaluation, and final budget of each event.

Administration:
\xe2\x80\xa2 Responsible for the personnel management functions of the unit, including recruitment, training coaching
and discipline of staff through performance reviews and other means.
  • May be required to act on behalf of the City in the processing of grievances and related arbitration

hearings.
  • On an interim basis as may be directed, assume the duties of the Director of Recreation and Culture.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
  • Degree or Diploma in Recreation, Marketing, Business or Tourism
LICENSES / CERTIFICATES
\xe2\x80\xa2 Valid Class five (5) Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Licence EXPERIENCE
\xe2\x80\xa2 Minimum of five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 directly related experience, combined with an excellent understanding of local
government, parks and recreation industry
  • Minimum of three (3) years\xe2\x80\x99 office administration and staff supervision experience
  • Experience hosting community events and a strong working knowledge of the concert industry.

  • Proven ability to implement programs, organize community stakeholders and effectively deal with the

media
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to create fun, exciting and educational programming
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
\xe2\x80\xa2 Good working knowledge of Work Safe BC Regulations
  • Available to work various schedules, weekends, statutory holidays to respond to the needs of User

Groups and Special Events
  • The successful candidate will be subject to a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
