Monday to Thursday 3:30-6:00pm (Up to 16 hrs per week)

Compensation:

$19-$25 per hour and 4% in lieu of vacation

Banff Avenue Community House is a non-profit organization situated in the heart of a low-income social housing neighborhood in South-East Ottawa. The Community House's overarching goal is to offer a safe, inclusive space where individuals, children/youth and families can gather, connect, and access a variety of supportive programs and services that are beneficial to the community in which we serve.

Position Details:



The French Program Tutor Leader is responsible for guiding the academic and social development of French-speaking children aged 6 to 13 in a supportive after-school setting. This role focuses on enhancing access to quality programming for Francophone students within community-based initiatives.

As a key facilitator, the Tutor Leader will design and deliver engaging, culturally relevant activities that promote learning, confidence, and personal growth outside of regular school hours. The position emphasizes innovation and creativity in developing programming that reflects the unique needs of Francophone learners.

A core part of this role involves creating individualized learning objectives and support plans for each participant, ensuring their progress aligns with both personal goals and program expectations. The Tutor Leader is also responsible for selecting and implementing literacy and numeracy activities that are developmentally appropriate and rooted in current educational practices.

Qualifications/requirement



o University Degree and/or College Diploma in Education, Child/Youth Studies, Social Work, and/or equivalent experience in the field.

o Fluency in French (written and spoken) is essential.

o A minimum of 2 years previous experience tutoring children in numeracy and/or literacy. Able to respond to students' individual learning styles.

o Familiar with grade level expectations in the Ontario Curriculum

o Possess a strong understanding of the barriers marginalized, racialized, and/or at-risk clients may face in society.

o Certified or willing to obtain certification in Standard First-Aid/CPR mandatory.

o A vulnerable sector police reference check is mandatory.

o Strong oral and written communication skills

o Ability to plan and implement engaging activities that align with the program's objectives and promote learning and development.

o Solid computer proficiency in a wide range of applications and platforms required

o Work collaboratively with all members of the Community House and the community to support a holistic approach to supporting vulnerable children, youth and their families

o A strong knowledge of an Anti-oppressive approach and understand the lived realties of the community served.
