Why is this role important?The Analytic Techniques and Tools -Learning (AT&T Learning) department plans curricula and designs/delivers courses on advanced analytics in health-services delivery and policy-making. The department also leads a community of practice around the organization, to encourage knowledge-sharing and collaboration on advanced analytics.The Program Specialist contributes to roadmap design; designing new courses as needed; and delivering courses on an ongoing basis. The position emphasizes expertise in the use and teaching of Python. Related tools and techniques include machine learning, big data, and data visualizationWhat you\'ll do1. Provides expert advice on technical training in support of CIHI\'s overall business strategy.
2. Supports CIHI analytical teams by planning, developing, and delivering training of various levels, with a focus on using Python (and occasionally R).
3. Provides guidance on creating high-quality courses and participates in peer course reviews.
4. Creates reports, spreadsheets, and presentations related to course planning and delivery.
5. Shares knowledge and expertise across the organization; Provides learning opportunities and knowledge sharing to CIHI staff related to advanced analytics, including machine learning, big data, and data visualization.
6. Meets timelines and milestones by applying project management concepts and monitoring deliverables. Accurately identifies resource requirements and potential risks.
7. Ensures that quality of products and activities meet CIHI standards (e.g. privacy, security, ethics).What you\'ll bring to the table
  • Undergraduate degree in Informatics, Data Science, Computing Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Three to five 5 years of demonstrated experience with Python to manipulate data and gain insight into datasets. Working experience with R is an asset.
  • Experience with in- person training, coaching and mentoring.
  • Three to five years of experience in data analysis activities including data visualization, statistical analysis, machine learning, or data pipelines.
  • Experience designing and building analytical solutions using good software engineering practices is an asset (e.g., code optimization, version control).
  • Familiarity with high performance computing is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, including the ability to document findings and communicate complex ideas in simple terminology.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective collaboration skills.
  • Understanding of Canada\'s healthcare system is an asset.
  • Ability to fulfill occasional travel.
  • Fluency in English is required, bilingualism is an asset
