Why is this role important?
Reporting to the Program Lead, Hospital Data Management (HDM), the Program Specialist will play an important role in supporting and leading activities and deliverables related to CIHI's Hospital Data Management program. The Program Specialist will support hospital data collection by understanding and assessing business and technical requirements, and testing system fixes and updates to current data production systems. They will also contribute to hospital data initiatives which directly further CIHI's data advancement and modernization objectives.
What you'll do
1. Provide subject matter expertise for the implementation and assessment of new and/or modified data collection options which reduce collection burden and increase the breadth of hospital data.
2. Provides client support for data collection, including training and onboarding of new data providers by leveraging business and technical knowledge of existing hospital data programs, products, and services.
3. Provide expertise and support towards implementation activities including requirements definition, documentation, specification development, data validation and user acceptance testing, and deployment for current and enhanced/new data collection systems.
4. Consult with internal stakeholders from various areas of the organization including Case Mix, Classifications & Terminologies, and Information Technology Services to understand, and resolve data submission and production issues as necessary, and ensure smooth and comprehensive data supply.
5. Monitor the health system environment and key stakeholder activities to identify and validate opportunities for continued relevance and responsiveness to information needs in the hospital data sector and across the continuum of care.
6. Provides project coordination and client support services to key stakeholders in initiatives which inform/influence the modernization of hospital data.
7. Support the development of briefing notes and reports. Prepares and delivers presentations in support of branch and corporate strategic directions and priorities. Develops and produces promotional materials and communication tools.
8. Participate in departmental and branch projects and ensures the completion of assigned deliverables.
What you'll bring to the table
  • Undergraduate degree in Health Service Management or Health Information Management, or equivalent relevant experience including HIM diploma/degree from a CHIMA-accredited college.
  • A minimum of 5 years' related experience in a Health Information Management field.
  • Conceptual understanding of the health care system and health information in a health policy context
  • Experience in commonly used health care technologies (hospital/clinical information systems or Electronic Health Records such as Cerner and Epic and/or abstracting software such as 3M, Meditech or Med2020).
  • Good understanding of user and business requirements in factual and conceptual terms and the ability to communicate requirements to CIHI's information systems specialists.
  • Sound knowledge of CIHI products and services (such as DAD and NACRS), national/provincial eHealth/digital health progress, issues, and risks; awareness of emerging relevant IT trends and their impact on health care delivery.
  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills to be applied to a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Good organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, business writing and presentation skills; positive attitude to changes in business practices and processes.
  • Strong proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision; values a team approach.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Fluency in English is required, bilingualism is an asset.
