Position Summary
The Program Officer will play a central role in managing and implementing the Equilibre program. Working closely with and reporting to Dr. Brown for day-to-day operations and work directly and report to each of the three chairs on specific projects. The Program Officer will co-supervise assistant administrators, and other program staff with the chairs, and be the main contact between project partners and the chairs. The Program Officer will oversee logistics, coordinate daily operations, manage grant budgets and accounting, support events and training activities, and ensure effective communications and reporting. They will support grant writing and funding opportunities and represent Equilibre at national network meetings (CWSE, CISE) and activities.
Equilibre Chair Summary
The Equilibre program is part of the Quebec chair for inclusion in science and engineering (CISE). Equilibre Chair is a Quebec focused initiative that supports inclusion, equity and diversity in research and strengthens the recognition of diverse expertise and unique career pathways of platform scientists within research ecosystems, promotes equitable evaluation of academic research professionals, and advances systemic change by embedding equitable access to research infrastructure, allocation of credit, and funding stability, toward ensuring that the people who contribute to and sustain infrastructure platforms are valued and empowered to thrive. Aspects of the program will involve promoting careers as academic research professionals at high schools, CEGEPs and within undergraduate and graduate programs. Social scientists will be engaged in the program to understand the challenges and opportunities experienced by platform scientists in Quebec, identify barriers, and strategies to overcome them. The program will develop and support professional development and technology training opportunities for platform scientists and give them opportunities to tell their stories and showcase how the contribute to research success. The program will develop clear career paths and equitable evaluation frameworks and work with institutions on implementation. The Quebec Chair team is made up of Dr. Brown, McGill University, Dr. Ghuman, Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), and Dr. Paquet, Universite Laval.

Primary Responsibilities:
Program Management & LogisticsEnsure all Equilibre activities and processes integrate equity, diversity, and inclusion and intersectionality principles. Manage day-to-day operations of the Equilibre program across McGill, INRS, Universite Laval, and partner institutions. Oversee project timelines, deliverables, and milestones; track progress and ensure accountability. Maintain shared documentation for the project team (e.g., Google drive, event forms, reports).

Supervision & Team CoordinationCo-supervise three student administrative employees. Manage workflows among chairs, partners, and the national chair network. Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of staff.

Communications & DisseminationManage external communications with partners, stakeholders, and the public. Oversee website management, social media channels, YouTube channel, and podcast editing and dissemination. Draft and edit research articles (with co-authorship as appropriate), project reports, white papers, and outreach materials in English and French. Manage press releases, institutional communications, and event promotion.

Event & Program DeliveryOrganize meetings and handle logistics for workshops, training programs, podcasts, Indigenous engagement events, art exhibitions, and roundtables. Provide on-site and virtual event support (registration, scheduling, materials, travel). Assist with creating workshop manuals, training resources, and dissemination materials.

Monitoring & ReportingSubmit expense reports, pay invoices, track expenditures and monitor budget with finance offices of the three institutions. Provide data to the national chairs network for annual reports. Assist with writing of grant renewal in year 4. Compile quarterly reports and support Chair(s) in preparing annual reports to funders. Collect and analyze participant feedback, event metrics, and EDI data.

Stakeholder EngagementManage interactions with social science collaborators, Indigenous consultants, academic research professionals, funders, and networks including scheduling meetings, taking notes and summarizing project ideas and frameworks. Support organization of policy consultations, advocacy activities, and framework dissemination events and activities.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or AbilitiesExperience in project management and coordination. Experience managing budgets, events, and multi-partner projects. Strong organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and project management skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French. Ability to travel within Quebec and Canada. Experience with equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives and/or community engagement. Experience in research administration or scientific infrastructure programs. Competence with digital tools (Google drive, social media platforms, spreadsheets). Familiarity with academic reporting processes and stakeholder engagement. Experience with social science survey and interview development. Competence with website management, digital learning management systems and educational platforms.
