Position Summary

Working under the direction of the

Director of Programs

, the

Programs Manager

provides leadership in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of community-based programs and services, including:

Abinotci Mino-Ayawin Head Start Men's Healthy Living Program Insight Indian Residential School Program
Using a trauma-informed and holistic approach, the Programs Manager oversees the development, implementation, and daily operations of assigned programs. This role ensures that supports, advocacy, outreach, and engagement activities are delivered in a way that respects dignity, culture, and diverse needs.

The Programs Manager collaborates with the Director of Programs and staff to implement strategies based on needs assessments, situational evaluations, and best practices. The position requires the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups who may face multiple barriers while maintaining professionalism, composure, and respect.

Key Responsibilities

Program & Service Supports



Oversee program planning, delivery, and evaluation with the Director of Programs. Provide leadership on service delivery, ethical practices, and documentation requirements (PHIA, FIPPA). Oversee day-to-day program operations, including outreach, advocacy, and engagement. Develop, monitor, and manage program budgets. Participate in performance appraisals by providing feedback, evaluations, and staff development support. Apply respectful, non-aversive strategies in challenging situations. Represent the department in meetings and advocate for program needs.

Staff Supports



Supervise frontline staff with clear expectations and professional modeling. Support staff in outreach, advocacy, and participant services. Document and address performance concerns, supporting the disciplinary process when needed. Provide coaching and feedback for professional growth.

Team Environment



Foster positive, respectful, and collaborative relationships with staff, partners, and community agencies. Contribute to a supportive team culture and collaborative projects. Share knowledge to strengthen team capacity.

Intake & Participant Supports



Support intake and assessment processes. Ensure program criteria are met. Provide referrals and diversion support when necessary. Meet with participants through outreach and office visits. Conduct meetings with staff/participants to address concerns, ensuring due process.

Community Relations



Represent AHWC programs positively in the community. Build and maintain strong relationships with external organizations. Participate in collaborative initiatives and community networks aligned with AHWC's mission.
Qualifications

Post-secondary degree or diploma in Health, Social Services, Community Development, or related field (or a combination of education, community work, and experience in mental health, addictions, and/or homelessness). Minimum of

five years' program management or supervisory experience

. Experience delivering community-based services to individuals facing barriers related to trauma, addictions, or mental health. Demonstrated ability to lead outreach and advocacy initiatives. Previous experience working with Indigenous individuals, families, and communities. Strong ability to work respectfully with diverse populations. Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. Acceptable Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector), and Adult & Child Abuse Registry checks.
