Location
This position is required to work in person at the Music Centre in Burlington. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.
Position Overview
Work with members of the Burlington Teen Tour Band. Reporting to the Director, Bands & Music Services, this position instructs the drum line and assists with marching and field show instruction. This position is required to attend rehearsals and some performances. Assist to ensure with the safety and well-being of band members while working with them.
ResponsibilitiesWork with the members of the Burlington Teen Tour Band Drum Line
Assist with the instruction of music and possible writing of drum music for snare drum, bass drum, quads, and cymbals.
Assist with the instruction of mallet and auxiliary percussion.
Assist the Director of Bands with the teaching of marching and field show.
Collaborate with other instructors, be part of a team environment.
Coach and develop members for performances.
Coach and develop members with life skills.
Assist in resolving conflicts within the band section.
Ensure the section is performance ready.
Address concerns and set section goals.
Schedule members and attend extra sectional practices
Have good communication skills with both the band members and other staff.
Travel with the band for performances and tours may be required.
Duties and responsibilities are inclusive but not limited to the above.
Requirements
Education: Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent required. Standard First Aid and CPR. Good organizational skills are required.
Experience: Over 3 years of previous Drum Line instruction/teaching experience with a Marching Band or Drum Corps. Experience working with teenagers is a must.
Police Check Requirement
This position requires the successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening at their own expense.
