The District of West Vancouver Community Services Department has openings for casual Program Leader - Community Dances. Under the supervision of the Youth Services Program Coordinator, the Program Leader will assist with the provision and supervision of community dances for preteens in grades 6 and 7 at various times over the school year. The Program Leader will be responsible for:
setting up for, and cleaning up after, the events
checking preteens in for the event and assisting them with putting on their wristbands for entry
providing supervision of all areas of the facility during the events (including on and off the dance floor, inside and outside of the facility, etc.)
monitoring youth volunteers including overseeing a youth volunteer-run concession program and handling low value cash transactions;
establishing and maintaining effective relationships with youth and acting as a positive role model;
enforcing dance rules and regulations;
monitoring and reporting out on facility and equipment safety, security and maintenance requirements;
working collaboratively with all Youth Services staff and attending staff meetings and in-services;
performing other related work as required.
The preferred candidates will have completion of Grade 12 plus related lived, professional and/or volunteer experience to demonstrate required skills, or an equivalent combination of training and afore-mentioned experience plus current Emergency First Aid (or better) and CPR 'C' & AED certifications.
The successful candidates will have: experience leading/supervising youth (11 - 18 years old) in various activities while providing a fun & safe environment; ability to demonstrate knowledge of the issues, needs and concerns of youth and their psychosocial development; ability to demonstrate ethics and professional boundaries in working with youth; ability to work independently and as part of a team in a culturally diverse community setting; excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.

Hours and days of work may vary. Must be available for Friday afternoon and evening shifts beginning at 5 p.m. at the Gleneagles Community Centre.
Starting Rate of Pay:
$20 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits
