Position Summary
Reporting to the Coordinator, Recreation, this part-time position is responsible for assisting with the program delivery for the Town of Milton's After School Club program, School Break camps and/or Preschool & Children's general interest programs, ensuring that all activities are safe, fun and appropriate for the targeted age group
Major Job ResponsibilitiesLeading fun activities such as sports, arts & crafts, and theme days, etc., as outlined in the daily activity plan
Developing a positive working relationship with colleagues and creating a program environment that promotes respect and inclusion
Understanding our standard operating procedures, and supporting the Coordinator, Recreation in applying the established rules and guidelines that oversee the safety and conduct of participants
Providing supervision for up to 10 participants at all times to uphold our supervision standards
Ensuring all program delivery upholds the principles of HIGH FIVE
Modifying activities to be inclusive of all participants
Reporting all accidents, incidents, concerns, or site damage to the Coordinator, Recreation ensuring all appropriate forms are complete
Following all departmental safety standards and practices and employee Code of Conduct
Communicating with the program Coordinator to ensure all participants are having a positive experience and collaborating to resolve parent/guardian concerns
Communicating with parents/guardians about the participants day at the program or at camp; sharing reminders, successes and challenges
Maintaining daily attendance records
Depending on the program, may be required to be a swim buddy in the water during swim programs
Keeping all program areas clean, tidy, and safe for all participants
Performing all other duties as assigned in accordance with program needs
Education & Experience
What will we need from you?Ability to work during the school year for After School & Preschool/Children's programs, and on scheduled PA Day Camps, Holiday Break and March Break camps
Preference will be given to those that are available to work multiple programs
Hours vary based on program registration numbers. During camps, this position typically works a full day, shifts are usually 8:15am to 4:30pm or 8:30am to 4:45pm, but hours may vary
Attendance at all paid staff trainings and meetings, that may occur outside of program times, is mandatory and a condition of employment
What skills and experience will you bring to the team?Minimum of 15 years of age and enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary educational institution for the upcoming Fall semester. Proof of enrollment may be required
Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work well independently and in a team environment
Standard First Aid and CPR C certification is required
HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) is required
Completion of a Leader in Training (LIT) program is an asset
Safe Food Handling certification is an asset
Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) certification or equivalent is an asset
Experience working with children and/or children with exceptionalities is an asset
Under the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to submit a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening upon employment.
HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development and Standard First Aid with CPR C is a requirement for this role. Successful candidates must have this certification as part of their application.
