Job Description

Catholic Social Services is currently recruiting for a 35 hours/week Program Instructor in Red Deer. This is a contract position ending November 30, 2026.



Job Summary:



As a Program Instructor, you are responsible for delivering the Food Service Job-Readiness training curriculum. Instruction will be tailored to participants with a specific Canadian Language Benchmarks over four weeks of classroom instruction. As the instructor, you will enhance participants' industry-specific English language skills, including preparation for the Food Safety Certification exam. You will also assist the Program Coordinator in observing participants during the practicum phase, in order to provide individualized language and communication support where necessary.



Job Duties:



Conduct pre-assessments to evaluate participants' language proficiency, learning needs and goals, and employment readiness, tailoring instruction to individual and group needs. Adapt and deliver curriculum/lesson plans to accommodate the needs of individual learners, incorporating real-world food service scenarios and workplace communication. Incorporate various teaching methods, including interactive activities, role-playing, multimedia resources, and group work to enhance participant engagement and understanding. Prepare participants for the Food Safety Certification exam by integrating relevant vocabulary and concepts. Monitor and assess participants' progress in language, job readiness, and industry-specific knowledge. Provide additional individualized assistance to participants when necessary. Work closely with the Program Coordinator to prepare participants for practicum placements. Observe participants during their practicum placement, focusing on language use and communication skills, and provide constructive feedback. Assist with collection of training feedback and evaluation of training outcomes to identify areas for improvement. Support program metrics tracking and contribute to program report preparation.

What This Job Requires:



Degree in Education with focus on teaching English as a Second/Additional Language. Experience teaching English as a Second/Additional Language. Additional relevant certifications or designations are considered an asset. Proficient with computer software including Microsoft Office and have the ability to learn new programs Ability to travel between work locations Vulnerable Sector Check from local RCMP or city police detachment Child Intervention Record Check
