Program: Taste of Independence (TOI) Bootcamp
Location: 6033 Shawson Drive, Unit 22, Mississauga
Schedule: Saturdays, 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM (Clients) | Staff: 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM
Start Date: October 6, 2025
Compensation: $19/hour (8-12 hours per week)
Training: All potential candidates must be available Saturdays, 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM for training prior to program launch.
About the Program
The Taste of Independence (TOI) Bootcamp helps young people with developmental challenges build real-life independence through food. Participants move through a repeating two-week cycle of:
Planning & Organizing
Shopping & Communicating
Cooking & Preparing (with air fryers only)
Sharing & Celebrating
The program mirrors daily living by breaking tasks into manageable steps while reinforcing confidence, social skills, and independence. All food preparation is taught through safe, accessible methods using air fryers only.
Role Overview
As an independent contractor, the Program Instructor delivers engaging and structured TOI Bootcamp sessions. Instructors plan, facilitate, and document activities while maintaining a safe, supportive environment. On rotation, instructors will also be responsible for purchasing program materials before sessions.
Work Schedule
Standard Program Days (Staff: 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM | Clients: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM)
10:30-11:00: Staff arrival, planning, and set-up
11:00-2:00: Program delivery with clients
2:00-2:30: Cleaning and organizing the space
Biweekly Cooking Days / Supply Runs (Staff: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM)
10:00-11:00: Staff work together to purchase or prepare program materials
11:00-2:00: Program delivery with clients (cooking sessions using air fryers only)
Wrap up by 2:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
Plan and lead program activities across all 4 domains of the cycle.
Support participants in building independence, routines, and confidence.
Maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive group environment.
Rotate responsibility for purchasing materials and supply runs.
Complete daily logs of attendance, activities, and observations.
Communicate updates, challenges, and successes to the program coordinator.
Ensure space is set up, clean, and reset for each session.
Requirements
Minimum 3 years' experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
Current CPR/First Aid certification.
Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Experience delivering structured programs or group activities.
Familiarity with ABA principles is an asset.
Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Reliable, punctual, and consistent in both attendance and documentation.
Preferred Assets
Skills in cooking (air fryer-based), creative arts, mindfulness, or fitness.
Ability to adapt programming when materials are limited.
Familiarity with Passport funding or Ontario's developmental services system.
Note on Contractor Status
This is an independent contractor role, not an employee position. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes and do not receive employment benefits.

Pay: $19.00-$20.00 per hour
