Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a strategic, experienced, and systems-minded leader to serve as Program Director for the Provincial Diagnostic Imaging Capital Replacement Program. This high-impact role is accountable for delivering a $168 million, multi-year capital initiative that will modernize diagnostic imaging infrastructure across Alberta. Reporting directly to the Senior Operating Officer, Diagnostic Imaging, this position leads the largest equipment replacement program in the organization and serves as a strategic integrator of operational, financial, clinical, and technical inputs. Description:
The Program Director is responsible for the overall delivery of the $168 million Provincial Diagnostic Imaging Capital Replacement Program. This includes developing the program governance documentation, multi-year work plans, and performance frameworks that align with Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services priorities. The role leads province-wide planning and coordinates cross-functional execution across all seven health corridors, Covenant Health, and Lamont facilities. The Program Director serves as the primary liaison for internal and external stakeholders including AHS senior leadership, Alberta Health, CPSM, Capital Management, vendors, and site operations. They are accountable for strategic engagement, communication, and change management to support clinical and operational readiness and minimize service disruptions. This position oversees the full capital project lifecycle, including business case development, procurement, implementation, and financial oversight. The Program Director is responsible for tracking performance metrics, identifying risks, ensuring compliance, and supporting transparent reporting to executive leadership. The role also ensures successful installation and integration of new diagnostic imaging equipment into clinical workflows, working in partnership with radiologists, modality leads, and site teams. A key focus is improving system resilience, access, and service quality across the province through effective capital investment and infrastructure modernization.

Required Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in health administration, Business Administration, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field is required. A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in large-scale, multi-site project or program management is essential, preferably within a healthcare or public sector environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced knowledge of project and program delivery across all phases, including business case development, procurement, implementation, risk management, and performance reporting. Experience aligning complex initiatives with strategic direction, navigating system interdependencies, and leading through influence is required. Applicants must possess exceptional stakeholder engagement, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, manage enterprise risk, and deliver results in high-stakes, multi-partner environments is critical. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to engage executive leaders and technical teams, are essential for success in this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

PMP certification is strongly preferred. Additional training in PROSCI, Lean, or Six Sigma is considered an asset. Experience leading large-scale healthcare capital projects, working within complex public systems, and engaging diverse stakeholder groups is desirable. Familiarity with procurement, risk management, and operational integration in clinical settings is an advantage.
