Job Description

The Program Coordinator - Indigenous Program Plans, develops and implements and oversees the day-to-day operation of a program. Supervises program staff.

This role plays a pivotal role in rebuilding and expanding a culturally grounded program for Indigenous children, youth, and families. Leading with strategy, the Coordinator will develop and execute a multi-year growth plan that includes service design, partnership development, and community outreach. A key focus will be increasing program visibility through an integrated media and communications strategy--leveraging social media, print, and public engagement to drive awareness and participation.

This role is instrumental in repositioning the program as a visible, valued, and well-connected community resource. The Coordinator's primary focus is on growth, results, and long-term impact--leading collaborations, mobilizing community strengths, and using data and feedback to guide continuous improvement.

This is a leadership position requiring initiative, creativity, and the ability to translate ideas into action.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:



Program Strategy, Growth, and Community Engagement



1. In consultation of the Executive Director Develop and implement a strategic program development plan with clear one-, two-, and three-year objectives, focusing on service growth, community reach, and measurable impact.

2. Design and lead a social media and communications strategy aligned with the program's strategic goals, including content creation, print materials, community newsletters, and engagement with media outlets (e.g., interviews, press coverage).

3. Develop, present, and facilitate public presentations to community partners, businesses, and potential networks to promote the Indigenous Program and build community alliances.

4. Establish and nurture partnerships with Indigenous communities, service providers, schools, and local organizations to co-design services, expand referrals, and increase program visibility.

5. Facilitate a variety of community connections within the Indigenous community through 1:1 meetings, mentoring, resource sharing, and role modeling that fosters trust, cultural safety, and collaboration.

6. Represent the organization and serve as a positive ambassador, strengthening networks between community members, organizations, and businesses.

7. Promote the Indigenous Program at events, community forums, and through formal presentations to increase awareness and engagement.

8. Monitor program outcomes and apply a results-based approach, using data and feedback to adjust programming and report on impact.

Program Delivery and Client Support



1. Plans and develops a program in consultation with the supervisor. Plans and implements program activities and special events.

2. Formulates program policies and procedures and evaluates the program in consultation with the supervisor.

3. Oversees the day-to-day operation of the program by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards and licensing requirements are met.

4. Supervises program staff by performing duties such as assigning work, providing feedback on performance, and conducting performance evaluations.

5. Participates in the recruitment and selection of program staff by performing duties such as screening applicants, participating on interview panels, and making hiring recommendations.

6. Schedules program staff in accordance to program staffing requirements.

7. Orients, determines the need for and provides training to program staff, volunteers and practicum students.

8. Monitors and authorizes program expenditures and maintains financial records in accordance with established procedures. Prepares the program budget for submission and presentation to senior management and/or the Board of Directors.

9. Plan and facilitate culturally grounded recreational, social, and educational group activities tailored to the needs of Indigenous children, youth, and families.

10. Assess client needs, risks, and goals through interviews, observation, and collaboration with caregivers and service providers.

11. Deliver short-term, issue-specific support through individual and group-based approaches using basic counseling and skill-building techniques.

12. Maintain up-to-date client records, activity logs, and program statistics in line with organizational standards and privacy legislation.

13. Act as a liaison and advocate for clients, coordinating with schools, social workers, healthcare providers, and other community-based services.

14. Participate in ongoing training and professional development focused on Indigenous community programming and culturally safe practices.

15. Prepare and submit required documentation and reports accurately and within established timelines.

16. Performs other related duties as required.

Education and Knowledge:



Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with a focus on business, community development, public administration, or human services (e.g., Business Administration, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Community Development, or Public Policy), or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Strong knowledge of program design, strategic planning, and outcome-based service delivery.

Familiarity with approaches such as Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), social innovation, or strengths-based community engagement is an asset.

General awareness of Indigenous community needs, history, and cultural considerations is preferred but not required.

Training and Experience:



Minimum five (5) years of proven experience in program coordination, including meeting funder-defined key performance indicators, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Demonstrated success in rebuilding or expanding programs through multi-phase strategic planning, goal setting, and execution.

Experience designing and implementing growth strategies that increase program visibility, participation, and community impact.

Proven ability to lead outreach and communications initiatives, including social media, public engagement, and media relations.

Skilled at building and sustaining partnerships and referral networks that support long-term program development.

Comfortable balancing strategic oversight with hands-on delivery, including facilitating group programming and individual support as needed.

Strong communicator, organized, adaptable, and able to analyze data and feedback to support continuous improvement and decision-making.

Must have a valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle to support program outreach and delivery needs.
