This position will play a key role in our Foundations in Hospitality program for Indigenous Youth, an occupational skills training program with a focus in the ever-growing Hospitality industry. The objective of the program is to foster, mentor and train Indigenous Youth who face barriers to employment but have a desire to gain and maintain meaningful employment in the Hospitality sector.
The Opportunity

Reporting to the Grande Prairie Program Advisor, the PROGRAM COORDINATOR / FACILITATOR will play an active key role within the Foundations of Hospitality Training Program. Our innovative online training program: Foundations in Hospitality directly responds to hospitality industry needs while focusing on preparing participants for meaningful employment in the rapidly changing hospitality sector.
As the central resource for Grande Prairie Hospitality program, the PROGRAM COORDINATOR / FACILITATOR will utilize excellent judgment to develop credible and meaningful relationships with program participants and other stakeholders, ensuring strictest confidentiality. This individual will work with the program advisor, the administrator, and the program participants to identify opportunities and to resolve concerns. This key leadership position will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Supporting external partnership recruitment and management
  • Assisting the coordination quality job placements
  • Hospitality specific and soft skill facilitation
  • 1:1 career counseling for clients
  • Program planning

The PROGRAM COORDINATOR / FACILITATOR demonstrates strong communication and a current working knowledge of the hospitality industry. This position will be responsible for facilitating the AHELI (American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute) START program, all presentations and coordinate activities to meet the ever-changing needs of individual learners.
The successful candidate will be an advocate for inclusion and diversity. They will create meaningful relationships with program participants and other stakeholders to provide an enriching classroom experience. In addition to instruction, the PROGRAM COORDINATOR / FACILITATOR will be responsible for setting up quality curriculum with a focus on keeping the online participants engaged everyday. This individual will work closely with the other program staff and the program participants to identify opportunities and to resolve concerns.
The PROGRAM COORDINATOR / FACILITATOR understands our student profile and meets the ever-changing needs of individual learners and develop quality and long-lasting relationships with industry partners.
The primary office for this program is located at training centre located in downtown Grande Prairie. Some travel and irregular hours will be required for success of this program
Key Responsibilities

Facilitation
  • Delivers lesson plans which meet AHLEI and employment preparation curriculum models
  • Possesses and continually develops working knowledge of Hospitality, AHLEI programmes and frameworks, and teaching methods
  • Assesses and records student development, while identifying problem areas and areas which need attention and improvement

Program Development:
  • Lead the development of new program material for classroom instruction
  • Ensure all materials are prepared for the first day
  • Assess individual needs of potential participants and engage accordingly
  • Develop/modify workshops and programming to meet the needs of program participants.

Program Delivery:
  • Track attendance using the Ballad approved project management tool Monday.com
  • Develop and maintain professional contacts.
  • Liaise with various internal & external clients & stakeholders.
Program Reporting:
  • Prepare and submit a weekly narrative about the program the Program Advisor every Friday
  • Ensure Monday.com is up-to-date and accurate

Business Development
  • Support the finalization of quality placements for each student, where both the student and employer, have mutual gains.
  • Work with client from a variety of demographics to identify job targets and match their skill sets with the right job and employer
  • Support clients in their job search
  • Provide pre-employment support such as resume/cover letter development, assistance in the application process and interview preparation for clients

Support Work
  • Active service management of clients to ensure success
  • Follow-up and associated reporting
  • General administration including maintenance of participant files, data entry, responding to incoming inquiries, preparation of materials, etc.
Other duties that may arise from time to time and as may be assigned
Experience

The position requires the following skills, experiences, and abilities:
A professional with proven experience collaborating with Indigenous individuals and groups, building and maintaining relationships with staff and external stakeholders, and recruiting participants for both training programs from Edmonton and the surrounding area.

  • Connections within the Hospitality sector in Grande Prairie and NW Alberta will be considered an asset.
  • Relevant post-secondary education is an asset.
  • Public speaking or group facilitation within a formal educational environment or on the job required.
  • Prior experience in employment placement and/or building customer relationships is preferred (an equivalent combination of education and professional experience will be considered)
  • Proven intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Intermediate skill level working in google classroom or virtual instruction
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • A genuine desire and passion to build relationships with various client population groups, employers, and internal/external stakeholders
  • Exceptional client service with the ability to present ideas and/or services to individuals and groups
  • Able to take initiative and be resourceful in seeking out potential participants
  • Experience with pre-employment strategies and knowledge of the local labour market are considered assets
  • Exposure to diversity and inclusion programs is an asset
  • Ability to work independently while leading a team is required

Compensation and Benefits
This is a contract position with a start date August 2022 and an end date of December 2022. Compensation is commensurate upon experience. Full competitive benefits provided upon successful completion of three-month probationary period.
