The Program


Skyline is a licensed 2-bed co-ed resource, focusing on youth ages 13-18, receiving services through the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).



Skyline provides a safe home environment in Downtown Victoria. Taking a person-centered, trauma-informed approach, staff are expected to recognize the effects of trauma and help youth cope with the effects. The goal in the provision of services is to avoid re-traumatizing and facilitate personal growth. The staff accomplish this via knowledge of the trauma-informed approach, assessment, and relationship-building, responding to disclosures, focusing on youth's strengths, and having cultural awareness. Experience and understanding of the interaction of trauma and substance use with youth an asset.

In Your Role You Will

• Plan and develop the program in consultation with the program manager, and plans and implements program activities and special events.
• Formulate program policies and procedures and evaluates the program in consultation with the supervisor.
• Oversee the day to day operation of the program by ensuring that: the necessary facilities and equipment are in place; program policies, guidelines and best practices are adhered to; and program standards and licensing requirements are met.
• Supervise/oversee program staff and contractors by performing duties such as assigning work, providing feedback on performance, and conducting performance evaluations.
• Participate in the recruitment and selection of program staff and contractors by performing duties such as screening applicants, participating in interview panels, and making hiring recommendations.
• Schedule program staff and sets up placements according to program requirements.
• Orient, determine the need for, and provide training to program staff, contractors, volunteers and practicum students.
• Promote public awareness of and support for the program by performing duties such as producing promotional materials and attending community events.
• Liaise with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision, facilitate referrals to the program, and represent the agency and/or program in external events.
• Maintain related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
• Operate motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting service recipients or on WJS business.
• Provide on-call and emergency coverage on pager or cell phone as required.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required.

The Position


The Program Coordinator 2 (PC2) position will oversee the day to day operation of the program by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, adhere to program policies, guidelines and best practices, and meet program standards and licensing requirements.



The PC2 will assist with recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and monitoring. In addition to completing supervision tasks, supporting contractors as required, managing the program budgets, allocation of funds and on-call processes.



This position reports to the Program Manager and requires union membership with BCGEU.



Scheduling:

This temporary full-time position will work 40 hours per week, with a weekly schedule of:

• Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 0700-1500
• Wednesday and Thursday 1500-2300
• On-call duties will be required, in the absence of the Program Manager, along with flexibility to meet the needs of the program (including overnight scheduling when required).
• Duration of the position dependent on incumbent (estimated 7/8 months in duration)
Mandatory Pre-Employment Screenings and Checks

•••Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

• A Degree or Diploma in one of the humanities, social sciences or related field.
• Minimum of three years in a similar facility or program, including at least one year in a supervisory or management role.
• Current WCB Occupational First Aid, Level 1 and CPR certificates required.
• Experience with basic sign language and/or alternative communication strategies training or experience an asset.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License and clean driver's abstract
• Ability to use common computer applications required.
• Food Safe food hygiene and sanitation and WHMIS (or willing to obtain within probationary period).
• MANDT or Non-violent crisis intervention (or willing to obtain within probationary period).
