Job Title: Program Assistant, Headstart Childcare Program
Status: Regular Part-Time and Temporary Part-Time, January until June 2023
Hours: 30 hours/week
Salary Scale: $19.967 - $23.491 /hr

To assist the the RECE in supporting a child(ren) with special needs in the program. Job Specific Responsibilities:

• Provide child initiated and adult supported experiences.

• Supports children, parent and caregivers with a sense of belonging, well-being, engagement and expression through daily routines.

• Promote children\xe2\x80\x99s mental health by supporting them to form close and secure relationships with adults and peers and encourage them to experience, manage and express a full range of emotions.

• Participate in program planning.

• Maintain a safe, secure environment.

• Model appropriate child guidance techniques.

• Participates in discussions and Team Service Plans with the teachers and the Integration Advisor.

• Provide support to program: set up, delivery and clean up.

• Shares in the supervision up to 24 children ages 18 months to 4 years.

• Participates in staff meetings and training opportunities as required.

• Work with children with special needs and provide adaptations when appropriate.

• Providing parents with information regarding the program and individual children as needed.

• Sensitive to the needs and preferences of families.

• Completes appropriate observational records as required.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Preferred diploma in Early Child Education or comparable post secondary education.

• Experience working in a childcare environment essential.

• Strong knowledge of child development.

• Organizational skills.

• Interpersonal skills with both adults and children.

• Experience working in or volunteering in a multicultural environment.

• First Aid/CPR certificate is required.

• Fluency in English is essential, and other languages are beneficial.

• Experience in program planning.

• Demonstrated ability and experience working with children with special needs.

• As required by the Medical Officer of Health, all childcare employees must have up to date immunizations, including Td/Tdap, MMR and Var.

Job Type: Part-time Salary: $19.97-$23.49 per hour
