Working for the

University of Alberta Museums




The Mactaggart Art Collection is composed of more than 1,000 rare works of art, including textiles, costumes, paintings, handscrolls, albums, engravings, and other artifacts from ancient and modern East Asia. It was generously donated to the University of Alberta in 2005 by Edmonton philanthropists Drs. Sandy and Cecile Mactaggart. The collection furthers our knowledge of East Asian cultures, and informs the research of students and scholars world-wide. This collection is one of 30 museum collections that form the University of Alberta Museums, a unique academic museum system that brings together multidisciplinary academic collections that range from art to zoology.

Position




Reporting to the Manager, Museum Programs and Outreach, the Program Assistant, Mactaggart Art Collection is an energetic, collaborative and organized individual who is responsible for assisting on a range of museums activities and specific projects related to the Mactaggart Art Collection, which is part of the University of Alberta Museums Art Collection. The Program Assistant assists with projects, public programs, exhibitions (online and in-person), events and publications, visiting scholars, and other related duties to support the University of Alberta Museums team. The Program Assistant is a temporary trust position within the University of Alberta Museums unit.


This position will be covering a leave.

Duties



Assists and help coordinate exhibitions (in-person and online) with various tasks including minute taking, exhibition install/deinstall, follow-up with various team members and contractors, etc. Helps with community outreach programs. Assists with the production of digital assets (online publication, database, etc.). Assists with the coordination of activities related to the Mactaggart Art Collection. Assist with the coordination of publications and reports. Assist with the production of events.

Minimum Qualifications



Post-secondary degree in Humanities, Museums Studies, Project Management, or a related degree with a combination of related experience. 2 to 4 years experience in project management and/or coordination of multiple projects/activities in the museum/cultural sector, including coordination of exhibitions, public programs, publications and events. 2 to 4 years experience in working and/or leading with multidisciplinary teams. 2 to 4 years experience in working in a cultural/heritage organization.

Preferred Qualifications



Knowledge of the heritage and museum sector, not-for profit and government services. Knowledge of project management. Knowledge of exhibitions, public programs, publications and project development. Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
