About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the senior management team in the Clean Energy Branch, the Program Administration Officer supports the provincial government\xe2\x80\x99s efforts to develop clean energy resources, reduce Nova Scotia\xe2\x80\x99s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, create jobs and transition to a low carbon economy.

Primary Accountabilities

  • You will work collaboratively with senior staff on policy analysis, and the development and implementation of new programming. You will be involved with funding initiatives for programs related to the Clean Energy Branch\xe2\x80\x99s low-carbon initiatives in the electricity sector, working to design the programs that will help Nova Scotia transition to a lower carbon future.
  • Work in electricity policy includes areas like renewable energy, such as wind and solar, energy storage technologies and innovative business models for new technologies. The department supports an inclusive energy transition and particular attention will be given to inclusion and innovation.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a related field (such as Environmental Science, Economics, Business etc.) and 5 years of related experience. Related experience can include working in energy efficiency, greenhouse gas quantification and mitigation, renewable energy development or similar fields. An equivalent combination of training and experience may also be considered.

As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate knowledge of national and provincial energy policy context and the Province\xe2\x80\x99s electricity, efficiency, and climate change mitigation strategies and funding programs. You will have strong skills in program design and evaluation, stakeholder relations, public engagement and consultation.

In addition to the above you will:
  • Have excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, presentation and consultation skills;
  • Be able to work independently and perform research and analysis and connecting with external stakeholders; and
  • Work well under pressure and in complex situations where diverse groups may have different positions.
Course work or experience in policy analysis is considered an asset. An interest in climate policy, particularly in the electricity sector, is essential.

The above qualifications will be assessed using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered; equivalencies include:
  • A Master of Resource and environmental management degree, or similar, plus 3 years of related experience.

Pay Grade: PR 13

Salary Range: $2,543.38 - $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
