About Us

The Maintenance Enforcement and Victim Services Division of the Department of Justice is responsible for providing support to victims of crime, including their families and children, including assistance with benefits owed to them through a maintenance support order and ensuring that there is improved access to these critical programs for vulnerable groups who need them.

We offer a range of services to help victims of crime, promote victims\xe2\x80\x99 rights and interests and advise government on issues relating to victims of crime; and work with justice partners and the community to develop policies and programs that address the needs of crime victims. We can help provide the victim, spouse, or relative with information, support and assistance as their case moves through the criminal justice system. When criminal charges are laid, victims and family members can contact us directly for help. We provide the following programs: Provincial Victim Services Program, Child Victim/Witness Program, Criminal Injuries Counselling Program, Victim Impact Statement Program, Restitution Program, and the Sexual Offense Legal Representation Program.

About Our Opportunity

The Project Leader will work as part of the team within Victim Services Head Office under the direction of the Manager of Special Initiatives for Victims. The Project Leader is responsible for budget monitoring, contract management, communications and implementation of the project and project plans that impact(s) internal and external stakeholders and assist the Division in delivering its vision, mission, and mandate.

As the Project Leader you will be responsible for delivering project(s) according to an associated scope, timeline, and budget, including ongoing monitoring and reporting. You work with key internal and external partners and develop and/or deliver on a plan for significant change management and communications, with guidance from senior colleagues.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Manages and delivers required outcomes for one or more projects.
  • Manages and delivers public engagement sessions on sensitive topics with vulnerable Nova Scotians.
  • Develops and delivers internal and external communications plans, with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Identifies shortcomings and suggests improvement recommendations to existing processes, systems, and procedures.
  • Delivers on the established outcomes by managing day-to-day relationships with clients, contract service providers, and project team, while working within an established contract management plan.
  • Ensures appropriate project management methodologies and best practice.
  • Provides guidance when required on interpreting and applying knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies in area of expertise.
Qualifications and Experience

As the successful candidate, you have a Bachelor\'s degree in a related discipline such as social sciences or project management with minimum 5 years of related significant experience in managing projects. Experience and knowledge in the area of sexual violence is a requirement. Experience working with intimate partner violence and/or gender-based violence is an asset. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

As Project Leader you will leverage your strong collaboration and relationship building skills to work effectively with justice partners, as well as with management, supervisory and technical staff. In doing so, you will build and cultivate trusting partnerships, applying the principles of a restorative approach. You are also result-oriented, capable of prioritizing and delegating high volumes of work under tight timelines. In addition, you exercise sound judgement in a continuously evolving and dynamic work environment.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in managing projects and deadlines; administration experience with legislation and policies; and excellent verbal and written skills, along with attention to detail in terms of reading and disseminating information.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

Equivalencies include, but are not limited to:
  • A Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a related field and three years of related experience
  • A two-year certificate/diploma in a related field plus seven years of related experience
  • A one-year certificate/diploma in a related field plus eight years of related experience
  • Nine years of experience working in a related field with no formal training

This is a Term employment opportunity based in Halifax with an anticipated end of Sept 1, 2024.

Some travel may be required to our offices in Truro and Cape Breton.

Pay Grade: PR 13

Salary Range: $2,543.38 - $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
