Position Summary Centennial College?s School of Communications, Media, Arts & Design is seeking a full-time faculty member to teach in the college?s award-winning Publishing - Book, Magazine and Electronic program. The Professor of Publishing will work with students to explore publishing strategies, develop materials to meet various marketing challenges and teach multiple subjects within the program, including but not limited to magazine editorial, magazine design and marketing.
The successful incumbent will have experience with both print and digital delivery of content and demonstrate knowledge of the magazine industry in Canada. The Publishing Professor will embrace emerging tools and technologies in publishing and, where relevant, instruct students on these applications. Reporting to the Chair, Communications and Media, the successful candidate will teach and engage Centennial?s unique, enthusiastic and diverse students in the classrooms and computer laboratories at the college?s Story Arts Centre campus in East York.
Responsibilities

  • Foster a positive, respectful teaching and learning environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity, including the critical examination of classroom materials and instructional practice for discriminatory bias or barriers to learning and engagement
  • Apply engaging teaching and learning strategies, employing diverse academic technologies as needed
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques, providing constructive and meaningful feedback
  • Teach either in person or online as required by the College
  • Work effectively in a team-based environment, using effective interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, and management
  • Provide reasonable academic support to students through timely electronic communication
  • Post marks and course materials in a timely manner on the electronic course shell
  • Maintain records of student grades and assessments
  • Participate in meetings and training activities as needed; additional compensation will be provided for attendance at mandatory meetings
  • Meaningfully contribute to scholarship and/or applied research at the College


Qualifications
  • 4 Year Honours Bachelor?s degree or Honours Diploma combined with relevant industry experience within the fields of magazine and book publishing, including online magazines.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience teaching students at the post-secondary level
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in the publishing industry, preferably in magazine publishing
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other faculty
  • Demonstrated ability to advance the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom, working with students of various social, cultural and educational backgrounds
  • Demonstrated capacity to advance departmental goals of decolonization and Indigenization
  • Demonstrated ability to develop course or learning materials
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship of teaching and learning and/or applied research in a relevant field using Boyer?s Model (important within institution ? contributing to development of knowledge, sharing teaching practice, presenting to peers/presentations, disseminate knowledge
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills
