Professor, Cybersecurity (Data Security)

Sheridan is looking for an outstanding individual to join our faculty team in the School of Applied Computing to teach in our highly recognized and widely acclaimed Honours Bachelor of Information Sciences (Cyber Security) degree as well as other Computer Science and Information Systems programs. The successful candidate will have a strong background in computer science and cyber security and will be able to teach courses in these areas at all levels of study.

Candidates must have expertise in at least one of the following areas: Digital Forensics, Incident Response, Exploit Development, Malware Reverse Engineering, Intrusion Detection & Prevention. Practical knowledge of, and ability to teach, C/C++ programming, Assembly programming or both is also required. Practical knowledge of Computer Systems Architecture, Linux and Windows System Administration, Cryptology, Secure Software Development, or Database Security would be considered a definite asset.

The successful candidate will be teaching in multiple programs in the School of Applied Computing and will also lead and/or contribute to program and curriculum development. With an increased focus on undergraduate research in cyber security, candidates will also have the opportunity to participate as leaders in this evolving field of study.

What You\'ll be Doing

Sheridan faculty provide academic leadership to programs and courses within their areas of expertise and contribute to the creation of a learning-centred environment where students can develop to their full potential. They also contribute to College, School, and program excellence by leading and/or collaborating on a variety of initiatives such as new program development, applied research and alternative delivery strategies.

  • Ensuring that program and course curricula are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices within the relevant professional/program disciplines.
  • Defining, evaluating, and validating learning outcomes for courses and programs.
  • Creating an effective environment for applied as well as digital learning which accommodates students\' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and learning styles.
  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course.
  • Developing online materials, alternative delivery and collaboration strategies, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process.
  • Ensuring that students are aware of course and program learning outcomes and evaluation techniques.
  • Providing individual learning assistance, academic advisement, and evaluation of student progress/achievement within assigned courses.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:
  • Master\'s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information System Security or a related field of study (PhD preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required; a combination of industry experience and applied research will be considered.
  • CISSP designation would be considered an asset.
  • Advanced practical knowledge required in one of the following subjects: Malware Reverse Engineering, Exploit Development, Digital Forensics, Incident Response, Intrusion Detection and Prevention.
  • Practical Knowledge of C/C++ programming, Assembly programming or both required.
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a trainer in business or industry preferred.
  • Strong network of contacts with other professionals, organizations and employers.
