Job Description

Are you a lawyer with a keen interest in public sector law? Consider working on a dynamic team with the Legal Services Branch. Reporting to the Legal Supervisor, Municipal Services and Enforcement, this Solicitor position will focus on providing legal advice in the area of municipal enforcement. Other responsibilities may include:

  • Research and apply the law in divergent factual situations
  • Gather facts through discussions with clients and through documents
  • Draft bylaws, legal agreements, documents and opinions
  • Draft reports to Council Committee and City Council
  • Take a proactive role in providing recommendations to avoid risk/liability
Qualifications

Membership with the Law Society of Alberta or the ability to attain membership with the Law Society of Alberta upon appointment

2 years practicing law post articles is preferred

Experience in municipal law is an asset

Experience in enforcement, regulatory law and/or prosecutions is an asset

Demonstrated ability to work independently with confidence under time constraints

Good verbal, negotiating and written communication skills

Extensive analytical, problem solving and decision making skills

Communicate with strong political acumen, strategic planning, issue resolution and decision-making skills

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment

Excellent legal research skills and computer literacy
