We are seeking a dynamic individual to lead the advancement of Radiation Therapy within an interprofessional context. This individual will be a key member of the both the organization's and Cancer Program's professional practice structure. Reporting to the Manager, Radiation Therapy, Director of Interprofessional Practice and the Director of Operations in the Cancer Program. The Professional Leader (RT) promote Sunnybrook's academic mission, vision and values across the organization. The ideal candidate is passionate about the importance of innovative professional practice, interprofessional teamwork, best practices, quality improvement, research, education and demonstrates a commitment to the communities we serve as well as providing advocacy to the profession.
Summary of Duties
Develops, implements, and evaluates quality initiatives for the profession within the program. Identifies major quality indicators within profession, evaluates the quality of patient care; plans, coordinates and organizes quality improvement initiatives to advance best practices while supporting the professional development of clinical staff.
Provides directional, strategic and academic leadership to Sunnybrook regarding the profession
Represents the profession within Sunnybrook and the Health Professions Leadership Committee and provides expertise to external committees and/or community associations
Leads in the innovation of practice through the development and revision of policies and procedures related to the profession i.e.: practice guidelines, medical directives, delegation of controlled acts
Provides leadership on corporate, program and profession specific committees or councils
Consults with other disciplines regarding the integration of best practices, patient focused care and interprofessional collaboration into policy and program systems and processes
Monitors and evaluates performance of staff against standards and best practices and accountable for staff compliance with College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO)
Develops and uses tools and processes to evaluate quality of practice at the individual, unit, program and organizational level in light of knowledge of best practices
Responsible for ensuring that staff performance meets professional standards and best practices and collaborates with manager and supervisors to develop action plans when performance issues are identified
Evaluates and documents performance of staff as part of performance reviews
Participates in program and discipline decisions with Managers, Supervisors and Directors regarding staffing levels, recruitment, credentialing, monitoring performance, hiring, disciplining, and termination
Creates forums for professionals to collaborate on discipline specific and interprofessional education, scholarly activities and clinical initiatives
Identifies system gaps for patient populations and proposes strategies to address gaps
Facilitates evaluation of the delivery of radiation therapy care in order to enhance the quality of service to patients, families and staff
Identifies, initiates and, or participates in research or quality improvement activities and facilitates the creation of best practice and translation into practice in collaboration with the Practice-based Research and Innovation program/portfolio.
Ensures dissemination of results of research and scholarly initiatives through presentations and publications
Facilitates and supervises Medical Radiation Therapy (MRT) education on all levels (basic, advanced and specialist) and provides oversight with respect to sustainability and accreditation of the RT related education programs in conjunction with the Manager.
Collaborates with Clinical Coordinators and Manager to support student education and optimize the learning environment.
Supports best practices in continuing education/professional development for the profession in coordination with the Manager.
Oversees radiation therapy patient education, ensuring information is evidence based and accurate and collaborates with Patient and Family Education Team on creation of print and digital materials
Oversees the practice and activities of the Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist (CSRT) and/or Advanced Practice Radiation Therapist (APRT) to support and ensure all 4 domains of the role are met: practice, education, research and leadership.
Qualifications/Skills
Completion of a Masters level or higher degree
Registered and in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO)
Minimum 5 years' experience in Radiation Therapy
Academic appointment at University of Toronto, Department of Radiation Oncology preferred
Excellent facilitation, communication, leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills
Experience in performance measurement, competency assessment and data collection
Flexibility and adaptability with a proven ability to maintain performance under pressure
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver educational programs
Experience in effectively implementing change
Demonstrated evaluation skills
