Status: PermanentAbout the Role
CASA Mental Health Classrooms are CASAs new model for school-based mental health service. The program addresses the need for services closer to students by bridging a childs mental health and school needs, through a coordinated approach by a mental health team and a teacher. CASA Mental Health Classrooms are delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions. This position specifically support CASA Classrooms in Northwest Alberta.The Professional Practice Lead - Teaching will:

  • Provide consultation, mentorship and coaching to CASA Mental Health Classroom teachers employed by partner school divisions.
  • Support teachers working in CASA Classrooms to create individualized academic programming.
  • Recommend and/or develop professional development training.
  • Promote the integration and implementation of social-emotional learning and mental health strategies.
  • Provide evidence-based resources to support the role of CASA Classroom teachers.
  • Support the application of strengths-based approaches to learning and instruction in a setting focused on supporting mental health.
  • Liaise with partner school divisions and their specialized learning departments.
  • Foster and support collaborative relationships within and between CASA Classroom teams.
Qualifications
  • Current Alberta Teaching Certificate, Permanent Professional Certification.
  • Minimum of seven years of teaching experience providing differentiated instruction to students with diverse/complex learning needs in a specialized learning environment.
  • Extensive knowledge in the subjects or areas of support (integration of literacy and numeracy across the curriculum).
  • Understanding of academic, behavioral and psychoeducational assessments.
  • Proficiency in developing individualized programming plans, with experience in integrating and applying instructional strategies and accommodations.
  • Experience with classroom management, behavior modification and individual behavior support plans.
  • Familiarity with Response to Intervention (RTI) models and levels of intervention is preferred.
  • Understanding of social-emotional, trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches is an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to teamwork.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license and access to vehicle for travel between CASA Classrooms as required.
