This is a hybrid position primarily based in Toronto. We\'re committed to your flexibility and wellbeing and our hybrid strategy currently requires two days a week in the office, giving you the option to work remotely for some of your working week. .

Reporting to the Manager, Oil Royalties, the Professional, Royalty Analyst is responsible for the review and allocation newly producing wells in the Provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. This position performs extensive research in the determination of accounts entitled to the revenue and assurances that the revenue is correct in the manner it is paid. Written and verbal communication with Industry Professionals is often a requirement in making these determinations. In addition, this position maintains a record of newly producing accounts and wells, along with the revenue received and fees attributed to the review for budget purposes. Without this detailed analysis of new royalty received, and the verification and review of updates, we are open to significant risk of claims due to the improper allocation of the money.

A role you will love

  • To receive notifications from Distribution Administrators through email and workflow where new royalty revenue is received. Determination of revenue includes:
  • Review of production well records using geoSCOUT;
  • Corresponding production well records with the land records using the Oil Royalty Department data base - TRIP;
  • Verifying revenue received with land documentation: Lease agreements, Production Allocation Agreements, Unit Agreements;
  • Set up of Producer Profiles in TRIP for the allocation of revenue to the accounts;
  • Set up of account distribution scheduling;
  • Movement of revenue from the suspense account to the entitled accounts;
  • Allocating research and service fees to the entitled accounts;
  • Audit - New Royalties
  • Using Workflow, maintain a system to ensure that the review is properly documented;
  • Maintaining records through the Workflow Diary system where determinations require verification with Industry Professionals to ensure correct revenue is received;
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal.
  • Provide assistance and support with other projects as required but not limited to:
  • Supporting the Professional, Net Accounts;
  • Supporting the Professional Land Administrator in the reconciliation and recovery of Saskatchewan Mineral Taxes;
  • Supporting the Distribution Team in payment changes by Producers;
  • Supporting the Distribution Team in approving royalty deposits - daily;
  • Supporting the Distribution Team in approving payments for distribution to Trust Account (GDR) - monthly;
  • Reporting of Fees to Reconciliation Team and Management Team - monthly

  • Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or post-secondary accounting courses
  • CAPPA (Canadian Association of Petroleum Production Accounting) certification or equivalent business experience to ensure the required specialized knowledge of production accounting or
  • CAPLA (Canadian Association of Petroleum Land Adminstrators) certification of equivalent business experience to ensure the required specialized knowledge of land agreements/contracts
Miscellaneous -
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge and skill with geoSCOUT, SPIN II, ISC, Teranet, ETS, IRIS, Energylink an asset
  • 2 or more years in the field of production accounting
  • Attention to detail
  • Initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible within a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to deal with a large number of files and issues at one time
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
