PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of the position of Production Supervisor is to lead all production and production-related activities on the assigned shift as determined by the Director of Stamping and/or Director of Assembly Technology. The position investigates unusual problems affecting production and determines solutions. The position manages employee development, performance, behaviour, and achievement of KPIs, targets, metrics, for the dedicated/assigned shift.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
All production staff on the dedicated shift report directly to the Production Supervisor.
The Production Supervisor is responsible for all operations and activities on his/her shift. He/she provides daily work assignments, assists operators with set-ups, programming and operation of equipment as needed. The position responds to any problems employees have and investigates problems as required. He/she is responsible for problem solving, coaching, mentoring the employees on their designated shift and for following up on all problems occurring on the shift and escalating to the Director, when required.
Internal contacts consist of production, logistics, shipping and receiving, quality services, tooling, and maintenance personnel. There are no external contacts for the position. Ensuring work is carried out in a safe manner and enforcing safety requirements is paramount.
The position is responsible for his/her work and coordinating the work of others. The position makes recommendations for employee training requirements, performance management, and reviews.
QUALIFICATIONS
Post-secondary technical program or equivalent and further training in management/leadership skills is necessary.
Proficient in production assembly technology, including welding processes with in-depth know-how. Must also have excellent knowledge of stamping presses, both progressive and automatic transfer. Some knowledge of tooling, production scheduling, occupational health and safety, environmental, and quality standards (IATF16949, ISO14001, ISO45001) are required. Must be able to effectively plan manpower requirements daily.
Good written communication skills are required for normal business/technical communication. Excellent oral skills are required in order to provide instruction and feedback to production staff and to the Leadership Team.
At least three years of experience at a supervisory level in a similar production environment with reporting, planning, training and disciplinary skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensures that production area is running smoothly by properly allocating manpower, actively managing production areas to ensure there are no bottlenecks, assist with set-ups and programming of equipment as required, assist with the trouble-shooting and problem solving of any concerns that arise on a daily basis.
2. Performs administrative duties such as preparing updates for the daily scheduling meeting, daily manpower planning, time and attendance corrections, approving overtime and vacation requests.
3. General supervision of staff including coaching, developing, training, and motivating employees to reach their full potential
4. Responsible for managing and tracking area objectives, KPIs, and targets
5. Oversees the BDE/ODC wage data to ensure accuracy and complete reporting
6. Conducts pre-shift inspections and validates the pre-shift inspections of Team Leaders for completion and accuracy
7. Ensures there is two way communication between management and employees, including various memos, safety talks, updated targets/production requirements, etc...Informs logistics if parts will not be produced in time to meet the production schedule/ requirements.
8. Acts as the point of escalation, and supports with trouble-shooting, when required, for critical tooling and general maintenance, for trouble shooting, equipment, machinery, or tool repair.
9. Responsible for correcting behaviours regarding the operation of machinery and/or time management, health and safety, etc. and support the company policies on progressive discipline, as required. Makes recommendations for hiring and terminations to the Director of the department.
10. Proper use of electronic data collection equipment.
11. Performs all duties within the 5S standards and ensures organization and cleanliness of the production department.
12. Ensures that production staff follows and performs to the instructions as outlined in the Work Area Reference Manuals for each of the work centers on the production floor.
13. Follows and performs to the processes and instructions as outlined in the Process House that are applicable to the department
14. Compliance to all Company policies, procedures, Core Values, and Leadership Principles.
15. Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy.
16. Responsible for working safely and keeping a safe work area for themselves and fellow employees. Reporting any unsafe working conditions, practices, and work-related injuries immediately to his/her Manager.
17. Any other job-related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Directors and management team.
