Job Description

Job Overview


To provide leadership to Swiss Water Decaffeination production personnel through effective planning and the consistent, safe production of superior-quality decaffeinated coffee that meets all established standards for quality, safety, and cost.

Responsibilities



Safety

Reinforce safe practices, procedures, and policies through strong safety leadership. Ensure compliance with all relevant workplace health and safety regulations. Participate actively in the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Coach employees to maintain safe work practices and correct deviations.
Personnel

Manage shift scheduling and crew training. Communicate key information to operators and supporting departments. Conduct monthly safety and operational update meetings.
Production

Ensure timely reporting of KPIs and other production data. Review operator logs to confirm SOP compliance and address issues. Coordinate workflow with the Production Planner to meet production and supply requirements. Collaborate with the Production Manager on maintenance planning and process improvement. Set operating parameters and maintain or develop SOPs and checklists. Act as first point of contact for production issues and coordinate with internal support teams to resolve them. Monitor and manage consumable inventory levels.
Quality

Monitor critical quality parameters and address non-conformances. Ensure compliance with QMS, GMP and HACCP standards. Support lean, process improvement, and QMS enhancement initiatives. Assist with root cause analyses by collecting data and documentation and following up on corrective actions.

Education /Experience



Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred. Candidates with an Engineering Technology diploma in the same fields will also be considered. Not required, but considered an asset:
- Lean Six Sigma training

- HACCP Certification

- Formal supervisory training.

- 4th or 5th Class Steam Ticket

Minimum of 3 years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within an automated food or beverage processing facility.

Knowledge /Skills /Competencies:



Strong understanding of industrial process operations and the ability to interpret process data, equipment parameters, and technical documentation. Familiarity with maintenance planning, troubleshooting methods, and effective collaboration with maintenance and engineering teams. Ability to apply engineering principles to optimize processes, improve equipment reliability, and support root cause analysis. Supervisory experience in a unionized environment preferred. High attention to detail with strong skills in data collection, record keeping, and procedural documentation. Clear and effective communication of technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

People Management:



Provide day-to-day guidance and direct supervision to Process Operators, Warehouse Personnel and HACCP Staff. Foster a strong safety culture by consistently modeling safe work practices and reinforcing safety expectations. Support employees in following established procedures and provide coaching when performance, conduct, or safety concerns arise. Collaborate with senior managers when formal corrective actions are required. Contribute to a positive, respectful working environment by promoting teamwork, clear communication, and professional conduct.

Maintain efficient, stable production by ensuring procedural compliance, minimizing downtime, and resolving workflow or quality issues promptly. Promote a strong safety culture through consistent reinforcement of safe practices, policy compliance, and effective incident prevention. Ensure adherence to QMS, GMP, HACCP, and regulatory standards, addressing quality concerns and supporting corrective and preventive actions. Communicate clearly and promptly with operators and support teams, fostering strong cross-functional collaboration. Provide coaching, feedback, and skill development to support crew performance and uphold professionalism and accountability. Identify and support process improvements, waste reduction, and reliability enhancements, including participation in lean initiatives. Maintain accurate, timely production records, logs, and KPIs with a high standard of data integrity. Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and a solutions-oriented approach in routine and high-pressure situations.
